the xc loop is not marked, is overgrown & most of the climbs now have berms in them and are being used as dh runs.

due to a million and one reasons, the wharncliffe riders (as you call them) have been told to bugger off and not come back.

the DH runs are still open but again they are not marked

you'll need a local to show you

then you'll really hate Wharncliffe.

Its not a trail centre, its some woods that people build stuff in.

There's plenty of stuff for xc but it's not so easy to find and string together. Also pretty muddy ATM. Plenty of maps online if you Google.

Including Greno across the road I can string together probably a steady hour, hour and half or so loop of mainly singletrack, with minimal firetrack sections. I think it is a pretty good place to ride XC, but it's all very well me saying that as I'm local and know where everything is.

For anyone not local, as the chaps say above, it'd be next to impossible to link everything together and get a decent ride in. You'd just end up wasting your day and wish you'd gone somewhere else.

You need to be willing to go and explore, definitely check out Grenoside woods (across road from car park) as the new tracks in there are excellent and more weather proof.

You will have more fun with mud tyres most of the year round and you need to be prepared to push! If you are within an hour then you owe it to yourself an a mtb'er to go and investigate!

A couple of the DH routes are still more than do-able for mere mortals i.e. no unavoidable drops

It's still worth a visit if you fancy a play.. As is grenoside and parkwood springs for a quick play right in the city centre..

Headed over there yesterday (hadn't seen this thread unfortunately!) the Red Route was a boggy mess and as stated above you'd need some local knowledge to get you around the non red route tracks. Bit of a shame really, could be a good venue. Wont rush back!
