Some of my pals are thinking of popping down for a days ride at Wharncliffe and Grenoside woods this weekend. What with all the rain, I'm just wondering if it will be a total mire at the moment and if they should leave it for a dryer occasion. Any local advice welcomed. Don't want to churn someones' local trails up for the sake of it. I'm also talking about trail/xc bikes rather than DH ones. Will the DH runs in wharncliffe be rideable on trail bikes, especially considering the gloop? Not been there for a while, so not sure what the trails are like these days. Cheers.

Everything there is rideable on a trail bike. I'm not a local and haven't been since it was dry but in my experience after the rain we've had it'll be well and truly back to its sloppy, muddy conditions. Mud tyres are recommended for slidey fun, but you will be getting covered nonetheless ๐Ÿ™‚ and personally I'd stick to the steeper runs along the fireroad (the main DH runs) as these will drain better with less standing water around, that way I guess you are minimising damage.

I only live about 20 odd miles of hills away but haven't been down that way for a while. Judging by the state of my local woods today, I think it's going to be pretty filthy. Will have to see what the weather does. Probably be the same everywhere round here. Cheers.

Was in greno woods last Sunday , its back to its sloppy best, Steel city is holding up well but we have had non stop rain since.

The new stuff in greno as has been getting a lot of traffic and shows some part hard to get cranking on they were that wet.

still came away happy in need of bath n bike wash.....
