its time for the welsh open

the Dyfi valley has the perfect combination of trails, epic scenery, some of the best riding in the UK, free camping, theres a shorter option too.

Clashes with the Steel City DH for us. Let Abigale pick, with what she has on for the next couple of months, so gave backword on the Welsh Open when the date for the DH was released

I'm in.

Was one of the Mach stages raced last year at BES?

I think we did Ceinws S2, 3 and 4 in 2015 UKGE nat champs and WGE

I'll be making up the numbers with you in vets.

Gotta be due for some mud after Exmoor and Lakes... The mud last year was mental.

1½ new stages, apparently. Shorter than last year but still looks like a tough loop.

Forecast is a bit damp for Saturday,

Gonna be fun!

Only 220 signed up tho, which is criminal for such a good venue! Wges usually pull 250-300

The are a few other races on including ews Eire but still a shame, longer loop putting our off? BH weekend? Also Mach is a bit of a pain to get to

EWS & BH weekend are the weekend after - lack of commitment from everyone, we're doing both 🙂

Not sure if the bigger BES loop last year people put people off - apparently it was a tough day out.

I'm looking forward to it though.

For some reason, I just haven't been feeling it for Welsh Champs and I don't really know why. I love the riding at Dyfi and I know Charlie puts on a good race but I guess it's mainly because having the Southern Champs and National Champs so close before, the cost of another race weekend plus another BH weekend away from the family is the main reason.

If it was a month or two later, I'd have been more on it I think!

That's more than the BES last year...

Most people I've spoken to have been very interested until they hear it's over two days rather than one.

I too would prefer to race it all blind on one day, even though I can easily go home on the Sat if I want.

Great weekend, after the rain stopped. Love riding Dyfi - the off piste is wild there 🙂

Came into this race with zero expectations, as i've had a horrendous chest infection all week & could barely breath. Slogged my way round practice but just about survived.

Race day was me just hoping to get round, and get some miles in before the EWS this weekend. Didn't start well as I noticed I have cracked another carbon rim just before the start of S1. Had a good day out all in other than snapping my chain out of the gate on stage 2, probably the worst one to do it on. Stopped to pick that up & went chainless for the rest of the stage.

Slightly annoying as I was on for a finish somewhere around 6-7th in masters, which would have been an awesome result given how I felt. I lost about 50 seconds to my mate who's a similar pace on the chainless stage.

Oh well!

I've missed racing big enduro's - as much as I enjoy the one day events like the Southerns, a big day out in Dyfi is so much better.

Had a great time, transitions were very tight (apparently Charlie was using EWS guidelines)
Stages were brilliant, found it hard to get going on 1 which was a new fresh cut track , by stage 2 I was loving it, was very wild and I was on the edge until a root caught me and literally sent me flying , 3 was also brilliant off piste but still a bit shaken from my crash, 4 was chlamchx descent which is superb but pedally at race pace, 5 was another new track, (think cut for BES last yr) but really good, however I was feeling the 90km of the last 2 days by then so was just hanging on really.

Super slick organisation, great trails, great weather, cool people

Dyfi valley has such huge potential, you can see why the Atherton's live there

It was epic alright! Thanks everyone for coming along. We look forward to seeing even more next year! Dyfi really is an amazing place to ride, and the site in Mach is perfect with facilities right on the doorstep to make life much easier.

Finally got round to editing a few of my clips together.

But had a complete blast, great stages, rode with some good mates, went roaming.

Looking forward to tweed love as it'll be first time up there and heard so many good things.
