Morning all,

As the title, myself and a mate are heading up to Glasgow 1st thing in the morning and planning on doing the whw up to fort William. Will be bike packing with Bivvy gear and minimal gear.

Not heading home till Monday so will either do it in two days with Sunday spent in fort William or take it easy and use the full three days.

Anybody done this before and got any tips or good spots to stay ect?

Especially interested in the bottom of Loch Lomond section and if it's best to ferry to the a82 or grin and get on with it!

Cheers

Andy

Having walked it, but not cycled it, it is ugly. But if you do not do it, you have to battle the traffic on the other side.

Rock. Hard Place.

If you're doing the ferry then you're not doing the WHW so you could find another route between Glasgow and Fort William.

I assume you've checked that the ferry is still operating? BH weekend is very much the end of the normal tourist season so worth checking
Also might be handy to book your bikes on the return train trip in case there are no spaces.

There's a bothy just after the walky bit of Lomondside that might be handy if the weather is poor.

And take Smidge

I'm more inclined to stay on the trail than the a82 to be honest but some online reports says its 6 hours of hell while others say it's a couple of hours of hike a bike. Anybody know for sure how bad it is and how long it's likely to take to push through this section?

2 hrs of hike a bike. It's awkward but not that bad. Do it all

Get on with it.

The bit up to Rowardennan is fine, the bit from there to Inversnaid Hotel gets a bit awkward toward the end, the bit from the hotel to Ardleish is horrible with a bike. It took a group of six of us 2-3 hours to cover that bit, with a fair bit of faffing. But if you don't do it you've not done the WHW.

Watch the waterbars towards the top of the loch. I ****ing hated those ****ing waterbars. Just when you think you can start rolling again you have to hop over wheel-sized, square-edged bike traps every 50 yards. **** the guy who put those in. **** that guy.

Well, I absolutely loved it, my mate got halfway and jacked in.

It's a lot of hike a bike but the views and some of the riding was top notch.

Would do it again but would probably walk it over four days or so
