College of mine is going to do the West Highland Way next week (good on him). Then last week decided to "take a bike to help save time in places". I nearly fell off my chair. Then today, he went to buy a pump at the local bike shop, and came back with a new bike to walk with. Fasicinating results to follow next week.
tbh if he goes out with the intention of walking then its not a bad idea
a good bike ride ruined by a walk but he will save time on a walk with a bike....
Trying to walk 100 miles pushing a bike sounds like hard work, but he is very determined to do it this way. I think that you either ride it or walk it, not both. ๐
apart from the bit at loch lomond, he'll be able to ride most of it.
have you walked or ridden it then yetidave ?
walked it a few years ago as a student, ridden bits of it over the years, would be interested in ridding it all at some point.
so if thats the case wheres the issue ?
wont reccomend it as a ride but it is largely ridable - the walk is a full on walk for a couple hours
no issue, just sharing. But his idea is to walk the bike all the way unless he is needing to save time, not to ride it as much as possible.
a group of us did it for charity earlier this year,
a lot of fun, but loch lomond was a nightmare.
we did it in 2 and half days, most of the second day was pushing, and climbing with the bike.
