I'm sure everyone's sick of seeing sunny videos from the Alps - but we had an awesome week!

Looks good! would love to do this, what sort of budget are you talking about for a week here? also, any experience of hire bikes? 🙂

Cheers

That looks great but I fear there wasn't enough footage of 29ers, rigids, plus sized tyres or single speeds for it to be a hit with the STW crowd.

Looking at €75 a day for a DH bike.

I hired a chalet for two weeks. Cost me just over £1k and slept 6. I drove down via the ferry. Haven't tallied up that bit yet.

I'm going back in a couple of weeks. Chalet us costing me £360 for the week, got the ferry for £80 return so just fuel and tolls on top plus spending money.

It's money well spent.

Nice vid @BoardinBob

@chocolateteapot - our chalet slept 5 in own rooms and was €750 for a week. We flew with our bikes which was about £200. Lift pass £80ish. Definitely money well spent.

It seem like I went the wrong way down from the Col de Cou...

So, the col de cou bit. You do that ridgeline which then drops down to the valley on some switchbacks. We ended up going for lunch at a mountain restaurant and then losing a LOT of height going down a gravel access road into champery(I think, could be another swissie resort). Is there another way down which gives you singletrack all the way or is the ridge plus some nice switchbacks basically it?

The way I did it was up to the Col De Cou summit, then headed towards Champery via the bit I'd pushed up. Kept right at the fork, headed along the ridge, headed for the big cross on the left at the next fork. From there it was some really techy switchbacks in the trees. Popped out at a little carpark. Descended on the road for a couple of minutes then dropped right into a barely visible trail with some really nice steep switchbacks. Looked like it is rarely walked or ridden on. Then down the main road into Champery. I'm aware you can go from the CDC back to Morzine which is also supposed to be excellent.

I did the same as Bob, singletrack nearly all the way then just a few miles on the road back into Champery

Yeah, thought there must be a better route. We were on our own and fluffed it up somewhat as it was largely guess work. The first bit was fun along the ridge but nothing was ever techy in the trees, tight ish but easy albeit still a lot of fun.

Fyi I took a couple of wrong-ish turns. I rode all the way down to the bottom of the mossettes Swiss chair then up the crossetes and its signposted from there. The way I should have gone was to follow the ppds route about half way down the swiss national track. It's not a major diversion though.

Just so everyone knows, the Swiss local govt agency has put a big no cycles on the Col de Cou ride, so that generally means don't ride it.

I was up there two days ago and had ridden over there to ride the track to find it closed which was a major disappointment

While I was tempted to ride it, you have to respect the locals wishes

Wanted to do it this week, but decending back into morzine instead, but have run out of time and weather it seems. In fact due to the small number of orange fives I've seen I presumed they were all forming a queue up to the col!

good vids boardinbob and Markend. Think ~I rode every trail you did too. Was that a section of ~Swiss National Bob? When we rode there we were the only four riders on the whole mountain.

Here's my effort

Hora, I also thought Gully when I saw the Canyon.

I gave up with Morzine after the last few times I went it pissed it down. Even went for a month a few years back and it pissed it down nearly every day, good to see you had good weather.

@John_Key that's a real shame, was a great ride. Certainly no signs at the start of the Summer.

@Markend The first section from the Col was open, but when you get to the 4WD and there is a wee goat farm, the gate that lead to the ridge section had a no bikes sign on it, and it did at the downhill end of the ridge track where it rejoined the road further down.

Never mind, plenty of much better riding in France away from there (albeit it is in Switzerland)
