[#7773278]

I haven't been to a Welsh Trail Centre in over a decade. Time moves on.

Penmachno
Betws-y-Coed (Marin)
Brechfa
Cwmcarn
Llandegla
BPW
Antur Stiniog
Nant yr Arian
Afan
CyB

Am I missing any?

Can you really not ride up at Antur Stiniog, but have to take an uplift?

You could ride up Antur, just ride up the road the uplift bus takes - maybe about 2 miles or so steep climb, but why would you want to other than to avoid the cost of the uplift ticket. That is really not what the place is about. We take usually do Antur at the start or end of a long weekend of Welsh riding. Its a hoot even on trail bikes.

Not sure they'd let you do that TBH.

Antur and Revolution are uplift downhill venues, not trail centres in the "park up and pedal around a waymarked loop" sense.

OP - you're missing a couple of smaller ones, I'm not gonna look them up for you though.

No ride up at Antur. It's a commercial enterprise, pay for the uplift. It's well worth it.
Missing Cwm Rheadr and Blaengarw although they are "built" trails rather than full on centres.

I don't intend parking up and riding round anything. I'm intending riding through all the trail centres, linking them up with 'natural' stuff, bikepacking, and riding a representative route at each centre (preferably with the gear still on the bike). Mix and match, compare and contrast; no doubt pontificate on the differing experience and cycling culture encountered en route.

Only about half of those places are trail centres though?

If you're mentioning all venues in Wales that have trails, then the Black Mountains cycle centre deserves a mention.

Bike Park Wales, you don't have to use the uplift.

Black Mountains Cycle Centre. Possible to turn up and ride up for a fee like at BPW.

Wasn't this covered in a magazine, maybe MTB, a few years back?. Don't think they did the bike packing, but I defo remember something about riding all/so many of the TC's in Wales

It was in singletrack itself - croissant of pain I think it was called because of the shape of the trails on a map of Wales. Think they tried to do a red route at each from memory but bailed on a few because of time/weather possibly

Dunno - I haven't read an MTB magazine in over a decade either...

Sounds good, I'm local to Afan, so if you need any advice let me know regarding the more natural stuff let me know.

I've got some work in Telford in a few weeks, do I go to Betws-y-coed or llandegla?
Bearing in mind it will just be me solo...unless I can tag along with somebody..

How about the Welsh Coast to Coast. You can link in some trail centres

Goldigger, from Telford Cannock would be a better choice. Straight down the m54 n then up the A449 to Penkridge.

Eastridge is in England.

How about the Welsh Coast to Coast?

Too easy, and I do my own routes, not other people's.

Ah, so that signposted black route I did passing through on my rigid bike last summer was BP Revolution. Easy access via bridleways and forest roads from Lake Vrynwy, if you're interested, dropping you right at the top of the trailhead.

I meant goldigger should go to Eastridge (not llandegla or cannock).Having lived next to it for 19 years I know it's in Englandcestershire.

You are awesome, obviously, but isn't it going to take a lot of effort to build your own trials at all these trail centres you're planning to visit?

I'd refer you back to my earlier post:

Like I say, I haven't been to a Welsh Trail Centre in over a decade, but I'm nothing if not open minded, so figured it'd be nice to try them all out in a one-er.

Probably skip Antur and Revolution though

I'm sure I'll cope - I've got suspension forks now and everything!

So, in conclusion you don't ride other peoples routes and your plan is to ride other people's routes at trail centres and are asking other people's advice on routes between the centres which you will reject as they are other people's routes.

No, I am/was asking if there are any other Welsh trail centres I don't know about, so that I can devise a route linking them all up. I specifically wasn't asking for somebody else's ideas on a long route through Wales. I thought it was quite clear, but maybe not.

Rather than adopt an ideological standpoint, I thought it might be interesting to compare/contrast the riding experiences at the trail centres and the 'natural' stuff between. One data point does not make a trend, so I'd like to do all the trail centres in succession.

Llandegla vs Cannock?
This black run in llandegla looks like what I want to ride..

I could probably do both, llandegla on the Tuesday and Cannock on the way back Friday..
