Rode to the pool earlier and the back brake lever pulled straight to the bar. I hop off, wind in the cable adjuster and off I pootle. Braking is all fine.
On the way back from the pool, cycling down hill, all of a sudden my back brake locked on as I skid to a halt. This is rectified by unwinding the cable adjuster I wound out to the original setting and normal braking resumes.
So other than being haunted, wtf is up with the brake? I can't seem to get my head around what could be causing it.

I found my heel clipped the rear adjuster when pedaling, causing the brake to eventually stick on, had to get different calipers in the end.

cable outer pulling out of the brake/lever and getting caught?
