Went for a long road ride. Found it hard going, then got followed by a couple of pikeys dragging a trailer full of christmas trees, beeping and calling me a 'c**t'. Eventually they overtook, and I ended up in a rut at the side of the road, trying to avoid the trailer. The inevitable happened and I ended up going down on the tarmac. ๐Ÿ‘ฟ

Bike seemed ok, although the gears were off a bit. All was well until 5 miles later, when I climbed up Crocknorth Road near Dorking. Dropped down to the lowest gear, at which point the mech hanger (which must have taken a knock) snapped, wrecking the mech.

It was at this point, out in the middle of nowhere and with a broken bike, I realised that my phone was at home. Wheeled the bike for a couple of miles then managed to get the train of despair back home.

Not a successful riding weekend really...

Vicarious biking here ... stuck indoors in the middle of a big city

@ian65 yes indeed, lucky we (certainly the ladies) are as mtb-ers

@postie luverly, that relive thing is quite good.

@ton take it easy, fused ankle cold weather ? Love that view from the Drunken Duck, bench+pint+view=winner.

@scott thats a sh.t

First ride for about four weeks. Hadn't realised how much I'd missed it.

Fun if chilly surf yesterday before the storm hit. Slightly nervous early morning today dealing with flood warnings at work and getting the sandbags in place balanced by a pleasant ride in the sun mid morning. Not a day for the road bike even on road today, storm debris everywhere and LOTS of puddles. This track pretty much became a stream lower down!

Local hour and a half for me, once again my photographic ineptitude fails to capture what was a quite spectacular sky.

Ton: good effort that fella, you can come again.

No pics I'm afraid.

I went out to find snow on my fat bike, as I've never ridden it in snow and wanted to see if it was any good. I parked at Hollingworth Lake and climbed up towards Mordor (but not all the way) to see the snow line was a bit higher than my planned route. I found a lot of mud though. A lot. Maxxis Mammoths are not great in wet slop.

When I got home my daughter needed picking up and running to A&E (nothing serious) so the bike is sat in the garage, filthy, as I didn't get home until too late to clean it.

Off to do the Goldfields track from Ballarat to Bendigo over three days this weekend.

Getting rather excited now. I will furnish pictures when I get back.

been a bit sniffy about degla in the past, 'pffft trail centre grumble grumble' but its actually a lot more fun than i remember! esp with the mast extension, although that might be better saved for dryer months!! bog snorkel bingo under the snow!!

Was expecting more snow pics, guess it's very localised though. Black Mountains (Hay on Wye area) have 4" of good snow, if only I could hire a fat bike and get a day off......

That's Coniston Water through the trees, but beyond that it's hard to describe.

I reckon that is one of the little cut thru's that comes out at Lawson park

Looks like the top of 'down the bombholes' but looks too well surfaced?

We rode the bombholes descent, so it's probably that.

I wouldn't say it was well surfaced. Was mainly surfaced with water.

Rode a big loop on Saturday in the Dark Peak. Wish I'd not bothered. Mostly waterlogged or trudging through snow. Oh, and my brakes were playing up again.

Slaley Forest and Blanchland Common with a pair of monkeys on saturday. A whopping 4.5km with lots of snowball stops.

on my own for the time in quite a while. (very weak possibility i'd rendezvous with a mate), so will be an exploring one.

will be out at soon was i can be bothered sunday morning.

if its not mega windy.. quantocks from staple plain. head up to the trig point above smiths combe, but instead of "doing" smiths i'm going explore the ridge line to the north (smiths knapp) and look at other lines down into the lower smiths singletrack. once at the bottom also explore alternate routes back up. beyond that i dunno.. a couple hours worth and some good climbs.

if it is windy i'll stick to the combes/valleys and go up from hodders combe, head over to "mini chimney" then investigate a trail somewhere between the dead womans ditch / old devils galloping..

if it weren't for the fact i'm basically guiding a group from another nearby area the following weekend i'd sack it off, so riding with others is good encouragement to get out, and to keep fitness up!

so I was on my own. found the climb to the beacon tougher than I recall. only missed 1 week since I last did it months ago, but i've been riding different terrain a lot. did the bolded bit in the previous post.. got very very wet. took a diversion through Slaughterhouse Combe on the way back.. ate shit on the steepest of the stream crossings. as we'd had so much rain the stream was swollen and somehow my bars twisted boshing through it, got thrown down but survived with a bruised & bloodied up shin and a gouge on my thigh. nothing major. was more pissed off that while i was having a rest at halsway post some ****ers uncontrolled dog tried to have it away with my homemade flapjack, first from my hand, and second from my bag ๐Ÿ™‚

tonight: first try at hiit on the exercise bike.. just found a nice free app that'll do the timings and bark orders while i'm watching planet earth ep3 ๐Ÿ™‚

sunday: riding/guiding a group of 4 or 5 on the quantocks (not sure if i'm included in the numbers i've got) who are localish but ride the mendips most of the time. on the cards are favourites like bin combe, frog combe (the singletrack / good one) and a trip over to narnia/chimney way.. have a loose route sorted with abut 8 descents of various types. i like to show people new stuff so depends who in the groups has been where before as I don't know if i've ridden with all of them.
