Brought my road bike to The Lakes. 30 odd km out of Ambleside taking in Hawkshead Hill and Tarn Hows. Full rule 9 conditions, until I got back to Ambleside when the sun started shining.

Aiming to ride Whinlatter Pass tomorrow.

Took a trip out to Machynlleth as a mate fancied doing one of the Mach trails. We did Mach 3, which was great in a lot of ways, old school xc slogfest in others. 😀

I think they might need to have a think about how they contain their animals 😁

Took a window of opportunity on Friday late afternoon to ride the MBR Black Mountain ‘killer loop’ from Crickhowell. I wanted long climbs and short, technical descents with as little hike-a-bike as possible, so did it anti-clockwise.

Weather was great with dry trails, good intervisibility and long views. The hills were seemingly empty with the exception of the three mtbers I saw just outside Crickhowell on my way out.

5.30pm: Climbing up towards the reservoir. Still enough light to penetrate through the tree canopy.

6.30pm: Long views north and the start of the descent off the edge. The fields below are a vivid patchwork of green, framed by dark green trees and hedgerows.

7.30pm: Oh no! Chainring bolt has fallen out and chainring sheared off.

Unfortunately I was at the furthest point from Crickhowell, natural light was waning and I only had a rear light.

Fortunately I was also near the highest point on the route, so dropped the saddle and scooted back on an empty back road and some fun trails hidden in the undergrowth beside the road.

Eastern Cheviots for myself Jaco & Barkin Mad ..

Partly chasing down some old moorland tracks which we hadn't been on for a while and in some cases probably won't be on again as they are so overgrown now ..

Still a great day out though ...

Never been on these bridleways before ...

Jekkyl - what happens to Caddir Idris? It’s a good warm up for an afternoon st CYB

Vongassit - was there and other places 2 weeks ago with Martin @ Singletrack Safari. How I’d love to be there just now

Edit - I spent some of yesterday on The Long Mynd. 55k and about 1800m of mostly ribbon ST going down and a couple of bitchin climbs. Missed the rain but got a bit gusty towards the end. Great day though👍

Cadair we did on Saturday as the weather looked better. We had a great time and it rained a little near the start but then mostly held off the rest of the ride and we had some sunshine on the descent. The summit was cloud city unfortunately. Had a great time on the tech downhill, really really great grins from the steep stuff

Again we reached the top of Cadair expecting there to be more

Jekyll- Ah right, bonus weekend. Last time we went up it was Windy City so didn’t make it any further than the boulder field as felt it wasn’t safe to do so. Not a lot going on at the summit if it’s cloudy, amazing views on a clear day though. 👍

Fab weekend for us. Son took 2nd place at a local TT event on Friday night and then we both had a great time riding the Great Yorkshire Bike Ride on Saturday, completing the 70 mile route at 16mph average. Not bad for a wee fella (or his dad!)

Mountain bikes feeling neglected at the moment, but hired some in Slovakia earlier in the week and did a monster of a ride in the hills with friends, so I feel that I don't need to hand in my Singletrack account just yet 🙂

Nice gentle pootle down the Cloud Trail to the café at Beth's Kitchen with the Derbyshire FLAB group.

Until there was a sudden crashing in the undergrowth and 3 deer managed to cross the trail between our line of 10 riders with no one actually crashing into either one of the deer or one of the other riders

not sure we went all the way to the top. We reached like the drop off bit and the GPS was telling us to go off to the right across some unrideable stones and there was no view so we left it there and turned round. There was a group huddled together up there, looked like they were holding prayers!

Another explore on the Grail, NCN62 off to the east, much better once it got into the peak!!

Was looking forward to some tunnel riding

Thought about pushing on to Sheffield but it was cooling off by that point, shower in Stockport and the legs won with a quick jump up to Piccadilly to avoid slog home

So add the 2 bits and it's my first 100km ride of the year, and probably my first gravel style one

Went PR chasing after fitting new pedals. Got irritated by dog walkers not having control of their dogs on too many occasions (no aggressive dogs, just owners who can't (be arsed to) get their dog under control when other trail users approach, even when they've seen you from a couple of hundred metres away). Sigh.

Friday was ‘New Bike Day’, so after picking the bike up, rode Tidworth Freeride for the first time. Perhaps not the best idea in hindsight, as I rode like a tool. Not sure if it was a lack of familiarity with the bike or the trails or something else.

Saturday, took eldest son for his 2nd mountain bike ride, moved up from fire trails to some gently undulating blues. We both had a great time, well done boy!

Today, went back to Swinley, my ‘home’ riding spot to spend some time on familiar trails getting to know my new steed and dialling in the suspension. Had a blast!

@carlos it was so sweet! Spent 2 days battering down the full length Commencal track before jumping in the gondalas & doing it all again like a deranged hamster. Today I just cycled up to it on the road , enjoying the Sun , crickets & wee lizardy things scuttling about.

Nice evolution in skills/technique has been achieved. Back to the yUK 2moro  :  (

Rode up to Blackburn Spaceport - thoroughly enjoyable until I reached the car and discovered the zip on my pack had bust open. If you find my multi-tool, CO2 kit, chain links and a few other bits out on the trails then lucky you ...

Up the Whinlatter Pass from a Keswick on the roadie, down the other side and back. Made more interesting as the Lakesman Ironman was on; my route crossed run and bike and I got cheered on by people who thought I was competing.

First Lakeland pass I’ve attempted; not quick but I did it.

We went for a fathers day ride up above Derwent and finished up in the Ladybower Inn. Not many people out on the trails, must have been doing Dad duties

Went looking for a trail that I'd seen on the map, but turned out it didn't actually exist. Or, at least, I couldn't find it. Fun day out though.
