Just thinking of heading north for a few days riding in the lakes....can anyone local tell me what are the trails like at the mo? Water draining away well? Which routes are dry? Any info greatly appreciated! ta!
Grizedale has lots of standing water, nearly drowned over parkamoor yesterday ๐
its the lakes, its going to be wet! but the decent trails hold less filth than the average trail centre IME. Rode Afan on Friday and got far wetter and dirtier than a wet week in the lakes in May!
Yeah, rained again today so I imagine Grizedale will be wet. Coniston Lake is overflowing!!
Dont know about anywhere else but I would guess at wet.
Opinions differ, but I'd say the whole of the Lakes is ideal all-weather terrain, bar perhaps the high mountain summits. Just get it ridden ๐

but are there any flat bits in Grizedale ? Surely the water just runs off ?
Yeah, your pretty much right. Theres never really any mud to be found in grizedale at all is there. Most of it is just rocky and you will be able to ride the trails in the wet without issues
You will still get very wet though, alot of the bridleways often have little streams running down them after a few days of heavy rain.
Its not raining at the moment though

I agree. Kentmere can get very boggy, but the trails round Coniston, Elterwater, Ambleside etc are great all-year round. Might be some standing water but it's almost all rock, so the riding's still great.
Came back Sunday from 5 days riding and while yes there was standing water overall it wasn't bad, Parkamoor had some good sized puddles from the heavy rain before we got there but still wasn't silly muddy.
Simon is right the Lakes dries and drains fairly quickly on the good rocky routes, Walna Scar and Garburn were damp a bit but not bad given the amount of rain through the night and in the morning.
Lakes is some top riding.
Kentmere can get very boggy
specifically Cocklaw Fell and Longsleddale, but if you don't fancy them you can take Cornclose Lane from Green Quarter to Rasp How instead ๐
Yeah approaching Kentmere was a bit boggy but not that bad.
garburn, sadgill, gatesgarth, nan bield, skeggles water is a good all weather type of a route.....
ask barnes to guide you round..........he loves the route..... ๐
thanks guys....off tomorrow or thursday ๐
