I saw that a few days ago when I was obsessing over gearboxes. It's clever but the bits that move would soon be covered in gloop chucked up by the front wheel 😕

Nice idea, however I don't think it'll be something that's economical to have as an alternative to a front mech, regardless of potential advantages.

one thing I do like from that though is the adjustable crank arm inserts.

This, front mechs work well enough, and cost <£20.

This is susceptible to being hit by rocks and costs????

Pinion gearbox (or similar), or Frame mounted rolhoffs are the way forward, even Honda's "mech in a box" makes more sense these days with big hollow carbon frames (a 10-42 might struggle to fit though!).

Hmm grit and crap getting into tight clearances in the actuation mechanism, cant see it being a long lasting device over here.

You are still stuck by with all the dangly bits out the back so I don't really see what it achieves. I have a Rohloff which gives a wide gear range and no maintenance or dangly bits to break. That works well though it does add weight and a bit of drag. I think it would be even better if it could be mounted at the bottom bracket but as I understand it there would be torque issues if you tried that. They talk about combining it with a hub gear but you'd then need a chain tensioner which again takes away from the appeal.
I think the problem is that development began a long time before all these wide range cassettes began to appear which make a 1x set up more suitable for most riders.
