I missed the women, but amazing achievement for Rachel - dominating her sport.

That was a pretty rad race. Gwin doesn't even look like he's pushing it when he rides.

The frustrating thing is, is the media will not even report that a young British female who could be a role model for many is dominating her sport along with Manon.

aye, they won't and they never have, and probably never really will. But WE know she's an tremendously talented rider, and it doesn't make what she's achieved any less fantastic

great bit of racing today. Just waiting to hear what happened to Katy Curd, as her facebook has a photo of her in a hospital bed!

Seems like there has been a bit of a clearing out of the old guard this year , I really want Danny Hart to win one soon

I was cheering for Vergier when he went into the hot seat, but as soon as Gwin got going it was clear he would beat the time if he didn't bin it. Vergier should be a force, when he fills out a bit more, he will be a real contender. He was born when I was taking my A-Levels, I feel old.

Yea i had Danny Hart as a one win wonder up until this year. So good to see him consistently on the podium and pushing for a win. The guys at the top are so fricking good but Gwin is on yet another level.

Is Ratboy still under contract next year? Another weekend like that won't impress team management for sure. 2 crashes in practice playing at tail-whips, a crash in qualifying and again on race run.

Gwin obviously knows something the others don't about that track - quite dominant.

Or he had the driest run on a drying track. He suggested at the end he'd changed tyres too.

but as soon as Gwin got going

If you've won at Leogang minus a chain you're lacking an excuse once mechanically sound.

[s]Rob Warner[/s] Claudio ๐Ÿ˜‰ said something like "I wonder if Josh has had one of those emails from the sponsor, they can be quite tough I hear"

Yeah it was Claudio that said it. Ratboy hasnt looked the same since the ankle break. Peaty has a huge positive influence on him I think and he missed most of last season plus he's winding down. I think Bryceland needs that mentor/father figure.

UCI website is terrible and the new coverage of the top riders/qualifiers only is crap. Also the new Redbull app layout is crap. Was almost impossible to find the live feed.

1) She has bee on the BBC a good few time and the website.

2) Lets be realistic dominating your sport in a non-competitive field just isn't going to fire the imagination. You need battles between people to get people excited. It's a shame Manon seems so far off the pace this year.

It can't be a surprise that since Ratboy had a hair cut that he is way off the pace.

He tweeted a week or 2 ago that he was having issues with the bike set up. Looks like it's been deleted since though.

rachel atherton would have qualified in 125th and not started on the day.

even with a protected place, she would have finished 81st in the overall.

Hopefully never, though ideas like that would keep down the cost of the Olympics and mean somebody is home doing the ironing instead of playing with bikes or running etc.

I'd possibly say going with a modded track could be the better option, the time lost or made by clearing some of the massive tables is huge. So anyone not hitting it clean has an instant penalty.

At least they seem to have dropped that terrible idea of showing the top 20 number boards regardless of qualifying. That was truly stupid!

I don't really see how they could do anything but show the fastest 20 qualifiers. I think it's a perfectly good compromise. I was watching Wyn TV before that to see Phil Atwill and the guy with the shock explosion!

I actually reckon that the women should use a completely different track. Ideally, if the sport was big enough, running a schedule away from the men's. Basically borrow what works for the skiing WC, and makes everyone look really good and fast at what they do. (I appreciate that even the seperate track wont happen as no resort would fund it)

Combined men/women would be a disaster for the reasons above. Same track makes sense as it shares costs and the crowds are there for both. If the events where seperate the event would be third rate due to costs and revenues and there would be virtually no spectators and probably no tv either. I've been to a few ladies golf tournaments and can follow the best players in the world virtually alone, simply impossible at a mens tournament.

We love watching Rachael but if it where a non UK rider smashing the rest of the field would we bother ? The ladies WC needs the mens event to be run at the same time.

Im amazed Red-Bull dont do more from the WC, they already have a TV crew and production people there, and all the presenters. Id have thought they would film qualies at least in part, maybe some practice, even the track walk. Would provide enough content for another show if they added in a few pit interviews too, plus more chance of catching some spills, which we all know is good filler tv. Given the money they are pumping in im just amazed they are not milking it for all its worth, or even trying to raise its profile a little.

There are various versions of the tracks, up at Fort William has a load of options and the effort to put another smaller motorway section in wouldn't be that much. Is Gwinn pointed out landing smaller made him faster last year at Leogang.

I think there was a BDS a few years back where some of the road gaps were taped off, it would be possible to do something in there and still use all the same infrastructure.

Anyone else having trouble watching the replay? Or rather, not being able to watch it at all? I can't find the usual page with the (almost) full replay on. Only link I can find is to
http://www.redbull.tv/live/AP-1KR6H13P11W11/uci-mountain-bike-world-cup
Which I just get a 'no playable sources found' error on ๐Ÿ™

Any Linux/Firefox users who can watch on that link? I've disabled all unmentionable plugins. Doesn't play with youtube-dl anymore either.

. It's a shame Manon seems so far off the pace this year.

Is she actually off the pace or was the year she dominated just the year that Atherton was sick all year. Doesn't look she's slowed any, just Seagrave has upped her game, Ragot has 'retired' and Atherton is back to fitness and smashing everything.

(She did seem a little off this weekend though, but great effort by Miranda Miller)

Regarding separate tracks, from the top of the Asitz mountain (Leogang) past the mid station (where the WC track starts) to the finish, there are 28 different land owners.
The trail builders have a nightmare trying to do anything new. The farmer who owns the land at the finish nearly took his land back recently. I guess other venues probably have similar issues.
You may have noticed a new tunnel just before the 2 big wall rides, that's just been put in so the farmer can get to his field I believe.

And as pointed out and visible on the footage heaps of existing tracks and options to combine. You don't need separate tracks just some different taping options most of the time which shouldn't interfere with much.

There's not heaps of existing tracks, there's essentially 2, the freeride (Flying Gangster) and the DH. They essentially run parallel down the bottom half of the mountain on a 15ft strip of land. There are some areas where they have more land to play with (the woods section with the stumps and chainsaw art) but they really are fairly restricted. Taping different lines might work to an extent but the bulk of the course would still be the same.

Which is exactly what I was suggesting ๐Ÿ™‚
Doesn't need to be massive if your clever about it. Also it will probably never happen so not really worth worrying about but if they did some venues might not make the cut - there is a long list of good solid venues out there, Crankworx has a track coming down Mt Cherry in Les Gets, Val Di Sole is there (currently Worlds) Vallnord, Norway and probably some knocking on the door in Spain/Portugal along with the rest of the World getting a look in ๐Ÿ™‚

I watch the WC's Monday night so late to the party as usual, but obviously wanted to add my 2p worth...
Rachel looked in a different league to the other women. Sort of like when Ann Caro came along in the nineties and won pretty much every race she entered. Imagine a contest between those two would have been pretty tight, Ann Caro's bike handling skills were sublime as she showed when she turned her hand back to BMX to win the Olympics.
The men looked wide open, until Gwinn showed up. How much ice has he got in his veins to be the last rider down, have a very fast run to beat yet still manage to lay it down and hit everything perfect to win by another massive margin.
Agreed Hart looked impressive again, dunno what happened on the last section to lose him some time. He must be due a win soon, but only if Gwinn has an off day?

, but only if Gwinn has an off day?

You think you need to add minaar, bruni (hopefully) and a few others to the list. If it suits Gwinn he does it but not every track does at the moment
