Ok I have always poo pooed the idea before but we are off for a fortnights touring and I know that full waterproof trousers will be too warm. So I have bought a couple of pairs of cheapo waterproof trousers to cut down. Those of you who use waterproof shorts how long should they be? Below knee or above knee?

We will be cycling in shorts and don't care how daft we look

I'd go below, you want to keep those old knees warm, and you can always cut more off.

So just lose the bottom foot or so off the trousers? Will that allow for nice cooling breeze up the legs? and no getting tangled in the chains?

I personally have problems with some below the knee shorts catching on down tube bottle cadges when honking out of the saddle up hill, to you may need to experiment. This may just be a peculiarity of my riding style though.

There will be no "honking out of the saddle" nonsense. This is for a gentle pootle tour around the Netherlands. Gonna be weird with no hills at all

jezza, cut one short and leave the other one long, tell any dutchies that ask that its the latest thing in scotland, it might just catch on

enjoy your trip

Just above the knee, so when standing they're at your knee (think kilt-length).

I find if mine slip to just past the knee then they can catch and stick on your knees when pedalling, if that makes sense?

Mind the ones I have are in theory 3/4s, so they must be fine on lesser men and go past their knees....
