Is there anything I should do when washing goretex? Was gonna chuck my jacket in on a 30degree wash. Anyone else done this? Advice? I know I have ruined a pair of Sealskinz by washing them at 30!

Nikwax Techwash to clean the jacket:

Then if the jacket allows a re proofer that needs heat i.e. tumble drying or a re proofer that doesn't.

I have just used the Tech Wash accompanied by some of this as my jacket could not be tumble dried and it seems to have worked well:

That said you may only need the cleaner (the first one) if the jacket isn't wetting out.

What i do is, put a hot cycle on so that all the detergent that is in the drawer etc is washed through then put any goretex items onto a 30 degree wash with pure soap flakes.

The i use grangers spray in spray while still damp. I dont have a tumble dryer and for me this works best.

If you have a tumble dryer them a wash in might be best for you finished off with a light tumble.

I tried the soap flakes recently, dissolved them in a litre of boiling kettle water and poured them in. I set it to a 40 degree wash but the washing machine wouldn't drain at the end of the cycle. It turns out that the drain hose had filled with a congealed gloop of soap and I had to use the wet vac to suck it all out!

I'm keeping an eye out for liquid soap when I go shopping but haven't seen any so far. I won't be trying the flakes again in the machine though!

Other thing to do if you dont have a tumble dryer is to use an iron on the coolect setting. Put a tea towel between the iron and the jacket. Any application of heat makes the DWR take much better.
