Wiping his ass with the other hand for the next few weeks…
https://www.boltonmrt.org.uk/2016/10/03/incident-982016-male-mountain-biker-fell-into-empty-canal/
In total 18 team members and three team vehicles, one NWAS RV senior paramedic and one NWAS officer attended this incident,
seems excessive.
Nowhere to land the helicopter.
Hmmm, right next to Nob End locks...
Edit, that aint a pisstake btw..
It's a bloody long way down, now they've dug out all the crap.
But anyway - no mention in the report about the bike - IS THE BIKE OK??
I'm sure one of the 18 people there looked after his bike.
no mention in the report about the bike
I'd imagine they'd have made an assessment of whether valves and logos lined up, presence or absence of bar ends on risers, wheel size and how may rings on the chain set before deciding whether the rider was worth saving.

Never mind the ass wiping...
Arse.
Arse as in not ass btw, not who ever it was in the dry canal. Nearly ended up in the local cut myself, Just thought i'd better add that...
We often use the local towpath network - much of it now drained - on our night rides. One night it will end in tears.....
I was going to ask, why has the canal been drained? But I may have answered my own question....?
1924 Sections became disused; major breach at Prestolee in 1936; canal formally closed in 1941 & 1961; last use in Bury in 1965

Unstable upper level, it burst its bank's and washed down the embankment. A local group of Canal historians have been trying to reinstate sections of it for the last few years now. Great riding for a fitness loop, some good industrial relics along the towpath to stop at, climb over and have a butty and brew
I've not been down there for a while but, like Jason said, that's a bloody big drop now.
Bolton MRT are brill, they rescued my mates dog a few years back when he got clipped by a car up Rivington and ended stuck down an embankment.
Think we had about 3-4 land rovers, police, loads of MRT members and a vet.
Cheers folks
I go down there all the time and tend to ride along the edge to avoid the cobbles/mud... Maybe I'll rethink my line choice.
Grew up 2 minutes walk from there, I fell in the same stretch on my bike as a 15 year old albeit the other side of the bridge which still has water. Trying to lift my 45lb Al Carter over my head to throw back onto the tow path whilst treading water. Happy days.
Some fond memories of hanging round there as a kid.
yeah I went home that way last night, couldn't believe how deep it is now.I've not been down there for a while but, like Jason said, that's a bloody big drop now.
Wonder how he ended up falling, clipping a mate's handlebars? not very technical round there.
Wonder how he ended up falling
looking at how deep it is while riding along the edge, probably. Or he was stoned.
