[#3541671]

Hi all,

i have a road bike (brand will remain nameless for now) and have found a small crack in the aluminium lug (head tube to top tube). The crack follows the weld. now the issue is the frame has a 3 year warranty but it was purchased in 2008.

as its a manufacturing defect should it be covered by warranty? if so can some one help me with sale of good act etc.

many thanks in advance, Shaun

In the first instance take it back to the shop you bought it from, and then go from there.

But if anyone offers a 50% 'crash' replacement, take it.

SOGA - at three years old you have to be able to show that it was a manufacturing fault. You will only be in line for a partial refund even if successful as you have had 3 years use out of it.

I wouldn't hold out much hope of going down that road quite honestly

im dont want to have an argument with them. i just want the bike replaced/crash replacement.

some time welds crack.
thats my point there exactly!! Why did it crack??

as a welder, if i welded something up and it cracked i should be held at fault as the weld is no good. (a good weld is as strong as the parent material).

And there's the problem ๐Ÿ™‚

Aluminium always cracks, eventually. The fatigue life might be long or short, but it will always crack. Especially with a road frame, there will be tradeoffs of durability against weight, so they can't be expected to last for ever.

Have a talk to the shop, who will talk to the manufacturer - they may well offer a cheap replacement frame.

Sorry it wasn't more helpful ๐Ÿ™

I think the best bet is to go to the shop and see what the manufacturer can do for you. You are looking for goodwill as much as anything
