[#11353975]

I signed up for it years a go to be a host, it was free as a host or a user. Brilliant idea I thought but I let my account expire due to lack of activity.

I was reminded about it on a podcast and now it's $30 to sign up. When did that happen? I would not mind the $30 if I was going to be a user so to speak but acting as a host only it has put me off. Am I missing a host only sign up?

Anyone use it as either a host or a user?

Edit: adding link

I signed up a year or so ago and it was free. It looks like it is a one time payment and if you cannot afford it there is an option to apply for a discount.

Having hosted folk and enjoyed the experience I would happily pay a one off $30 to keep the system running.

For the uninitiated; it's a global cycle touring hosting organisation. Nothing sinister!

Signed up years ago when I got a flat with a boiler. Never hosted one. I dont think anyone would want to share one with me.

I signed up bout 10 years ago and have hosted dozens o' folk from china, russia, sweden, new zealand, australia, uk, canada and a number of other countries as i live in galloway and was pretty much the only available host in this area, really interesting and rewarding way to meet folk with a shared interest in cycle touring but i cancelled my membership a couple of years ago due to rapid deterioration of my MS, id recommend anyone who is able to sign up for it.

Yep great concept, we did host a few people but none recently. It would seem to be a barrier the 30 quid but I guess it needs some money to run the system.

I would probably pay it if/when we're in a position to host again.

If I was going to use it as a traveller I would have no issue with $30 but to re-register (as I let my account activity lapse) as a host $30 is a fair wack of money that I would much rather give to loads of other charities.

Sad really as I love the idea but its an expensive sign up.

as n when i move i'd consider it but I wouldnt want to pay to offer...

should be a fee if you are not a host and a user.
