"And I’m definitely not trying to swallow my lungs back down in the background of that last pic, oh know…"

What do you think I'm doing behind that strained smile!!!

Great pics @thegeneralist.

Would definitely be up for a lakes trip sometime btw.

Si

How are you fixed for spare annual leave at the moment?

I'm somewhat in surplus and thinking the forecast looks ok for Tuesday/ Thursday this coming week....

Hiya- interesting thread. I’m in S.Manc and looking for some new mid-week evening ride options with folk.
Usually ride around Marlple/Hayfield/Hope and can be away from home 5.30ish, sometimes earlier with more notice.
Happy being guided on my local trails and if that goes well then a Lakes trip sounds cool.

Good, good. Anyone else?

I was thinking we could do a 6pm start from Disley Station - parking if folks need it, fairly easy wazz down the canal for local folks wanting to bike there, opportunities for post ride beer from the Bohemian Bus. I've put a route together that's 21km/670m ish, out over Bowstones, Brickworks etc that we could do

Bohemian bus may not be open Wednesday. May be tempted to ride though, will see how the day goes. Don't wait for me, I'll either be there at 6 (or will catch up up Red Lane) or won't.

Bugger, you might be right. Can always try the Rams Head or Dandy Cock, they may have space.

We rode Bowstones, around to Brickworks and back on Sunday (a bit of proper off roading was exciting when we went off piste), it was really enjoyable. Apart from all the bits that have been sanitised.

How techy is it?

Vaguely thinking of riding from home, but that would mean Anthem twitchyas**** bike rather than proper MTB....

Not very/at all. And I'll be on a 12 year old hardtail, you'll be fine.

you can ride it all rigid (I have), you could even ride it on a cx though the final descent might be challenging

Am tempted to ride the CX now just for a laugh. Mostly your TBH, but hey, it's all entertainment

Room for one more?
I'll be driving over from Timperley but should be able to get there for 6

Yep, come along.

For anyone driving who's not aware, make sure you turn into the station car park (off the A6), not the Ram's Head car park (off Buxton Old Road). They're right next to each other but the station car park is free, the Ram's Head isn't unless you eat/drink in the Rams Head

OK. Confirmed plan from IHN:
Informal group ride. Wednesday 12 May. 6pm start from Disley Station carpark.
21km/670m ish, out over Bowstones, Brickworks etc

No idea what bike you're on, but do you fancy a 2 up chaingang along the A555 as a warm up? ( Subject to me actually sleeping tonight)

Err, no thanks. Pretty much my idea of hell. Cycling there as well as doing the ride would probably lead to me sleeping in the carpark, too knackered to cycle home.
I'll be in the stw unapproved silver trafic

I'm all excited about this. Last time I did a road ride up brickworks I looked to the left and thought " ooh that looks good, wonder if there's any good cycling there"

Well, strictly speaking, it would mean we were over the Rule Of Six. Personally, I'm fine with that, as two nights a week my wife runs with more than six people as it's classed as 'training' because it's led by a qualified coach, which is perfectly within the brilliantly consistent rules, and from Monday it doesn't matter anyway.

Oooh have fun everyone. Due to an infected horsefly bite I'm a bit poorly, but I probably would hold you all up anyway (Bowstones is a wee steep climb). Maybe next time.

IHN I think I know your wife, she runs with Disley runners on Thursdays right? Me too.

If anyone has any objections then i'll give it a miss and wait until next week or whenever, failing that see you all tonight! Look forward to it, it'll be nice to see some new faces for once 🙂

No objections from me.
We could always roll as a 3 and a 4 with a wee gap in between.

Ah, cool. You may have seen me then, cos I normally meet her at the Bus after Scouts (well, I have for the last three weeks since I started at the Scouts)

If you're the fella that recommended the wraps from East to West, I definitely owe you a pint. Whole-lee-mother they're good 🙂

Well that worked out splendidly. Sun came out just in time.
Many thanks for coming up with an excellent route IHN.

LL1: don't just follow the green highlighter pen on the map. Work out which is the outward direction and follow that.😔
LL2: Get some sort of electronic map thing. The route we did changed from South Peak to North Peak mapabout eight times. I managed to drop the map on one of the downhills, oops.😟
LL3: Multi tool screwdrivers are shit for forcing apart overextended brake pistons. Whassname's brake pads fell out on one section and he said he'd lost his split pin. I managed to get the pads back in with a replacement split pin only to realise that the spring was also missing. So took it apart again and rummaged around before luckily finding a spare set of Shim4pot pads with the right spring. All sorted.😃

Cheers for sorting my brake Alex! I wasn’t looking forward to finishing that ride with only a front brake.

Hopefully see you all again at some point.

Aye, smashing evening, cheers all. I rounded it off on the ride home by saving an 'ickle baby lamb that had got stuck in the wrong field, and couldn't get back to its mum. Fast buggers, lambs 🙂

There was talk of a WhatsApp group. I've now leapt into 2003 and got WhatsApp, but I don't know how to set these things up, so over to someone else...
