So as the title says I’m looking for suspension experts for some advice on how to bodge a fix on some old Manitou Nixon forks.

I have a pair of 2005 ish Manitou Nixon forks that I got a while ago and have since replaced as the spring was to light for me (even at that time spares were impossible to get). However i have recently got another bike and am a bit strapped for cash to get some new forks for it. Does any one know if there is any way these forks can be brought back to life?

Now I realise Manitou has changed hands more times than a hooker on a busy Saturday night recently and producing spares for older forks went out the window a long time ago.

So what I am looking for is ways to bodge a fix, i need stiffer springs for it, will any other manufacturers springs work? Is there any way to get hold of the spring design to get one some made up? Can the internals of a coil fork be changed for air?

Any help would be great

The Nixon coil fork usually had a wind down facility on the top of the leg.If you take that leg apart and reveal the wind down you can slot in a shallow spacer which would have the effect of pre-loading the spring, not ideal but it will stiffen it up a bit.I've removed the wind down completely on mine as it went faulty and put spacers under the spring to give the fixed travel i want.It is fiddly and you have to keep re-assembling the fork to test it.

The fork does have wind down, may have a look into your idea joeegg.

@seanodav and peteimpreza just re-checked and they do have more manitou springs than previously but don't think any are for my fork will drop them an email and see what they say.
