If anyone fancies a sociable Lakeland ride ths Saturday, I'm leading this, starting in Torver at 11am (Holiday Inn, Lancaster 10am). There will be 3 levels of difficulty:
a) fireroad to Natty Bridge
b) bridleway to Natty Bridge
c) Long Mire & Old Park Beck/Seathwaite (one of the best rocky DHs in the Lakes)
we'll all meet up for the top half of the climb up Walna Scar. Although this is nominally a beginner ride, Walna Scar is also very rocky in places...

We all start together, going clockwise, and climbing Hummer Lane into Broughton Forest

Hope its dried out a bit.

Was up there on Thursday last week, the day after the storm that went on to flood NE Scotland.

Didn't meet a single walker or biker all day!

it's mostly free draining except the bit around Yaud Mire, and we've already had 2 whole rain-free days ๐Ÿ™‚

Where are you guys riding next weekend Simon? I'm sorted for trains and accommodation to Windermere. Would be good to catch up with you on a ride if you're about!

Heading down the Walna Scar to Coniston has got to be the way, totally awesome decent.

First time I've ever had brake fade on the road section heading down into town, bloody scary, lost all the studs on my shoes trying to stop before I hit the main road.

sorry, that's the wrong way, if you turn R at the car park there's a brilliant rocky DH (BW) to Spoon Hall and just a short level road section into Coniston!

Where are you guys riding next weekend Simon?

well, Adrian is leading a lunatic Gatescarth/Garburn thing on Sunday, which should be "interesting". I could run a ride from Troutbeck Bridge taking in Jenkin Crag on Saturday if you liked ?

As in distance, difficult riding, both?! Saturday ride sounds good - was already planning a Garburn Pass + Jenkin Crag ride so this sounds ideal. Just to clarify, I am talking about Sat/Sun 19th/20th, not this weekend. Will drop you an email!

yes, I got that. Troutbeck Bridge is midway between Ambleside and Windermere, so an easy riding distance. The ride is about 12 miles I suppose. The Sunday ride will be over 20 and tough going.

I love living in the south west - right up to the point where I think about riding in the Lakes ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

Depending on where the ride starts/finishes, and so long as I can get my train at 7pm, then that sounds like a nice challenge.

I'd expect to finish between 3 and 4pm. I may opt to go over Froswick/Ill Bell/Yoke as Clareymorris says it's quite good ๐Ÿ™‚

I plan to be over that way tomorrow, but I think I'm just running instead (taking the family for a day out but that doesnt mean I cant slip off for a quick run of +- 3000ft )... If I see you lunatics I'll stop and introduce meself!

Incidentally are there any shower facilities anywhere in the lakes? I am over there loads on day trips and always go home stinking, which is not nice for the family being sat in a car with me smelling like a <insert rude word>. I was wondering if Keswick leisure centre would be OK, do they let you use their changing/shower facilities for a fee? or does anyone know of any other places?

You can shower at Keswick Leisure pool - just pay to swim and use the showers. I think.

Had some nice chocolate cake and custard in Coniston after a secret descent as well ๐Ÿ˜€
