Did you ride the loop clockwise?
Much better anti-clockwise isn't it - descending the Lickle etc.
I haven't done it anti-clockwise for over 6 years now, as the climb up from Coniston is horrible and it's a rubbish downhill from the top to the quarry. Obviously, the Lickle valley is a wonderful downhill, but normally we do that togther with the excellent Seathwaite descent starting from Ulpha...
