Does anyone have any recommendations of bike wall mounts/hooks for hanging bikes on a garage wall? There are a load of hangars on ebay but I'm loathe to stick my pride-and-joy on the wall with a £6 hangar.

You'd freak at my garage then. My bikes are held up with hooks that cost half that.

We have seven of these Decathlon ones on the back wall of the garage, they will take a 2.5 tyre and deep carbon rim with ease. Had them for a long time. They are robust and rust free and cheap at £3.99 each

Cycloc are posh but very good - I use a bunch of different types from them in the shop.

Does hanging then up by the wheel have any effect on the disc brakes? I presume not but keen to here from those who use wall hangers regularly.

Not with my Shimanos. No problems with forks either. Cycle them a couple of times once upright and you're fine.

Caused (ok coincided with) trouble with my shimano and magura brakes - leaky master cylinders for rear when left for a month or three, much less trouble when ridden regularly. Caused no trouble with avid, formula or hope other than a few spongy squeezes when first righted.

Can't help wondering if it has something to do with air volume and drying seals in the mineral oil breaks. Used regularly though I had no problems.

Have you used the 'hero' ones Ben? Been looking at them this week. If you have are they any good?

AQR in Pyrenees used to put elastic bands round the brake levers (ie to pull the brakes on) to stop any issues with air from the bikes being hung up. No idea if actually necessary.

Potentially better for the forks - if front wheel up oil likely to be keeping the seals wet. Pretty sure fox used to advise storing your bike upside down,.

if you want to hang them parallel to the wall these are good -

All my bikes hang by the front wheel from cheap plastic coated joe hooks from Wickes (might have been B&Q).
They're screwed into a long piece of 30x60mm wood that is in turn screwed into the garage wall.
Seriously, the hooks are 6/7mm thick steel and you have 30mm or so of thread in the wood. They're not going anywhere!

Those B&Q hooks are in packs of 2 for £1.18 a pack, and they work fine.

At the other end of the scale i have steadyracks. https://steadyrack.com/

Not cheap but wonderful things that swivel to allow the bike ro get out of the way and it folds up. They look great as well.

I had some brake issues with one bike though, xt brakes. Turns out i was missing a tiny rubber seal on the bleed screw so tiny amounts of air were getting into the system. Bar that all good.

That looks exactly like what I'm after.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Yup, I use a couple of Heros to hold some folding bikes - Very neat, only problem I had was with a Brompton where the gap between pedal cage and crank arm was too small, so I trimmed the cage a bit.

I'm really fancying these. Solve lots of problems. I've used generic hooks but there a bit of a pain for different tyre sizes and popping carbon rims on them seems risky.

Also the tilting function of the steadyrack would be a life saver for my situation.

To be honest what's £60 on a few grands worth of bikes and wheels.

I'm going to get some.

Topeak Turn-Up works well and lets you swivel the bikes for better space usage / access.

I use the £2.99 Motez Hooks from Halfords, but to save space I take the front wheel out, turn the bars and hang the bike from the maxle with the rear wheel on the floor. The front wheel then sits along side the bike.

What I like about the Steady Rack is that you roll your bike into it. No faffing around trying to lift it up and hook it around a hook. Not so much of an issue for me at 6'3" but difficult for my wife and kids

But £60 per hook!
Granted they're a nice idea, but I honestly can't see where they're getting that price from.
I've got 9 bikes in the garage, so that'd cost me £500+. Nope 😆
Instead £15 on some hooks, a bit of timber, screws and rawl plugs. Job jobbed.
And as long as you get the height right they wheel straight on too, no lifting required.

I'll post a pic when I get to my PC.

Here you go....

Dear me. I use hooks that were £1 a pair. They work just fine, thanks I bought loads, still have an unopened pack of hooks in the garage

Installed two steady racks, they are genius. Won't be fretting about my carbon wheels at all now.

The bolts that go in seem a bit over-kill but love the ability to swing them around.
