Just bought one of these for my son's birthday / Christmas present (planning ahead this year) and thought I'd give it a quick check over as I've had a run of bad luck with mail order stuff lately.
Out of the box the headset feels partly binded so I removed the stem and the fork will spin but feels quite notchy in comparison to my bike's headset.
When I put the stem back on and tighten the top cap to even less than finger tight torque the headset binds up again and the fork won't spin smoothly.
Does anyone on here have one of these? Is the headset supposed to feel as smooth as an adult bike? Or is this "notchyness" a feature of a kid's balance bike (never had one of these before)?
The headset is just plastic with no actual bearing so it’s not going to be like an adult bike.
@dhrider - I've taken the fork off and its got two caged bearings, upper and lower, like a proper threadless headset.
Ah sorry got confused between nippy & smoothy!
Shouldn't feel notchy, assuming the cages are fitted correctly (i've seen them upside down occasionaly), are the cups and crown race fully seated in the frame/fork?
Yup, pulled everything apart and the cages are the right way round and all spacers appear present. I'll request a return from Wiggle and get it exchanged. Thanks all.
Is the bearing cover binding on the head tube?
