Just a bit of bored Sunday window browsing.... Came across the Vitus Sentier 29er VR, for the price of £1,099 that's a very impressive set up really. Shimano set up, dropper, well speced frame etc, just a lower end fork. I think that could be the best bang for your money for £1,099, I would happily buy one. Any owners on here ?

Nope, I've been wanting the VRS as a winter hardtail but it's been out of stock for a while now - looks like the VR is the same.

Absolutely no reason not to at that price. The frames aren't quite as nice as more expensive brands but as a winter hardtail that's just going to get hacked up does that really matter?

The tyre combo (Magic Mary / Nobby Nic) is also a safe bet for UK winter slop.

They never seem to be in stock though.

I have the ebike version so no comparison!
Once I got over the shock of having a motor what really impressed me was how well it ride simply as a bike. In fact it is better than my niche steel HT. The numbers seem the same on the non- e so no reason it won't ride well. The main difference would be that you won't have the weight to crash through things when descending

I’ve had a Sentier 27.5 and it was great tbh. I only sold the frame on as I fancied something custom and steel for my 40th birthday.

I was running Pikes / GX 11 speed / Code brakes / DT e1900 wheels on it - so nothing really bling - just solid dependable stuff.

It built up around 28lbs in weight I think - the frame felt very light on its own. It was a nice lively ride, the geometry encouraged being a hooligan manually and jumping off stuff and it ripped round corners.

I’ve got a slightly gammy lower back where I bulged some docs a few years ago and on rides over a few hours I found on the hardtail (as opposed to my full suss) my lower back would tighten up. I don’t think it’s a particularly harsh frame though.

Customer steel hardtail will also be running 2.6” tyres for a bit more padding. Probably the same on the Sentier would have done the trick - but shiny new bike 🤷‍♂️
