I am sick to death of virgin, we subscribe to love film and can't even watch a film without it buffering, when 2 of us are on Internet you can't even go on u tube, I have phoned them on numerous occasions and they never resolve the problem. We will send a technician out they said today what times best (after being in hold for 20 min while they ran tests) gave me 2 time slots, well the later one as I am at work during day, ok we will book you in between 8am and 12, I ended up putting phone down, we have phone with them, that we never use tv that we use for mainly on demand and broadband. What gets me mad is they offer 30mb as standard I am getting around 8, they said everyone's going to 30mb, then I get a letter saying its going up by another £4 something, I am absolutely sick of them has anyone any ideas what other options are available, if I cancel my contract with them start again I get 30mb standard half price for 6 months
I pestered them & got 100mb for an extra £4 a month.
Were it not for the broadband speed I'd sack them off. We rarely use the phone, all TV comes via a SmartTV on demand.
Are you using WiFi ? Back when we had 30mb things got a lot better when I connected the TV via an ethernet cable. Even on 100mb we can only get 20-30mb over WiFi.

1st point they don't offer 30mb they offer UP TO 30mb.
If the line/cable/setup at the wall is showing 8 then cancelling and restarting wont get you 30. The speeds are Up To 30 (fine print....) If others in the area are then there is likely either a fault from the street to your door or with your kit.
The suggestion to plug equipment in over cable is a good one. That should be your best possible speed and each connection can max out to the box. Do a speed test with a single computer plugged in via ethernet and nothing else connected. Check your router to see who and what is connected just in case some cheeky bugger is using you for downloading.
FWIW 8mb should be fine for watching TV via Iplayer etc.
If you are on cable the options are more limited. See what the others will offer over a phone line.
End of the day suck it up get them out an get your kit tested if they can't make it work then bin them.
But as at the top DO NOT EXPECT TO GET THE MAX SPEED ADVERTISED
1. Take a look at VM's help and support website, the 30Meg bit.
2. Give up.
I invoked their 28 day money back guarantee when I had Virgin cable installed as it was woeful.
My problem wasn't the speed though, I think I was getting around the full 20meg my package was rated up to at the time. The issue was the crazy ping and jitter which made online gaming unplayable.
I went back to O2 ADSL (LLU) which gives me 5.5 meg on a good day but rock solid ping and jitter. 100 times better for me. Can stream video no problem.
I have the 30 meg and it runs like a dream to be honest. It only slows down to about 10mb when girlfriends daughter is on Skype. And it never drops signal.
Virgin media have been really good here. 60mb all day long and only had two black outs in the last 5 years.
I'm on the "Upto to 30mb" and regularly get in the low 20s on a wireless connection.
They're all as bad as eachother to be fair. Just go for the cheapest!
Moved to Virgin last summer here - all good - 40MB all day long.
35mb all the time on virgin, no problems with service or reliability
