Setting up a bike as 8 speed. When I tighten up the lock ring, the cassette can barely be turned. A 10 speed cassette spins freely.
Am I missing something here. I thought 8, 9 and 10 spd cassettes fit on the same freehub

is it binding on the spokes behind it ?

Not binding, just really stiff

Is it possible that the lockring is going in a little further on the 8sp, and causing binding? It's not something i've really come across, but if it is happening, a thin spacer behind the cassette may help.
