I'm looking to buy the Kickr Smart Trainer (prob V4 not that it makes any diff). Currently only have a 10 speed drivetrain on my Zwift mule.
I know the Kickr comes with an 11 speed cassette. So I'm (guessing) my options are
1) replace 11 speed with my 10 speed / spacers as needed
2) try and bodge 10 speed mech/shifter with 11 speed cassette
3) buy new 11 speed
Don't want to do 3 as it'd be pretty expensive. Not sure 2 would work. If I did 1, I prob need to replace big chainring, chain and cassette anyway but before I buy those bits (if I can get them) wanted to know it'd work.
Buy Kickr core and a 10s cassette, save hundreds?
Just fit a 10-speed cassette to the Kickr. Mine has had 9-speed, 10-speed and 11-speed cassettes at various points. Edit: basically the trainer just has a freehub like a rear wheel.
Yeah same as my current one then. That was my initial plan, but I was drawn to the idea that one more gear might make all the difference to my average performance ๐
I was going to get a Core (I have a 3 year old Direto at the moment which I'm donating to the better half) but there's a deal to be had on a V4 that's tempting me.
I did exactly the same swap, Direto to full fat Kickr V4 and also have 10 speed on my zwift bike. The kickr comes with the cassette spacer. Just swap the cassette.
Fab thanks @nixie, that makes it a quick swap. My bro is going to give me an old 11 speed road bike he doesn't use but that'll be a bit of repair/logistics that I don't want to wait to try the new trainer for.
Going to put my wife's very old Spesh Hardrock on the Direto. I'm 99% sure it's 9 speed ๐ I don't think she'll run out of gears tho, 3x ๐
