I've not ridden an MTB since around 2011, mainly do road now but just dug out the old SS in prep for an easy group ride next weekend
Just noticed the chainsets got a huge crack around one of the chainring bolts, whats the easiest/cheapest option for a SS square taper replacement?
I found the above but it dosnt look like you can strip it to have the middle ring on only, I've got an old Surly stainless ring on it at the mo so wouldnt mind keeping that running
I'd be up for cheap new style and BB if it works out same cost, Deore?
The Spa TD cranks might be your answer.
Perfect, they do a 4 arm!

I bought a Shimano crankset last year for exactly the same reasons as you- it was either Acera or Alivio and was about £30 from Rose bikes..
Et voila

I'm using a Shimano M3000 Acera chainset on one bike, square taper fitting, replaceable rings, can't complain for the price.
Thanks Shermer!
Another option. Alloy cranks and steel ring designed without ramps for SS setups. £15

I have one on my 1x9 Surly Pacer. Quality seems OK.
+1 for spa cycles, think its based on sugino something or othrt
My pal donated a pair of middleburn crank arms for my singlespeed build, Seems like there's plenty for sale on eBay.
I fitted an oval Wolftooth chainring which I like.
