Just got a new Orange Five and it is a great, great bike so far, it makes a racket coming downhill. Although i've had full sus bikes before, i've never had one this noisy DH.

I understand that box construction amplifies the noise. I have read in DIRT that the pros use the fluffy side of velcro to reduce the noise.

Anybody tried it, does is actually work and will it make a difference on a Five??

Sam Hill uses it in parts, especially to stop chain noise. I was recommended to fill the hollow monoque sections with expanding foam to deaden the noises.

Oranges are renound for being very noisy. If you have the cables running through the swingarm that makes them loud. Also look at reducing chain slap and noisy mechs.

Seems to be working for me. I did it my newly built coiler and it was much quieter than I was expecting.

Cool if it does work

How easy is it to clean Mr.N?

I've got a white Five so was thinking about white velcro which i've seen you can buy. But no good if if stayed brown after a hose down, or stained a funny yellow colour.

In my experience it didn't work. Tried it on my 5, it wouldn't stick because the underside edge of the swingarm has a weld running long it making too much of an uneven surface for it to stick too.

Weirdly, i find my 5 ALOT quieter than the Marin Wolf Ridge it replaced! I run a 36/24 chainset to perhaps the reduced chain length contributes to less noise??

I do have a strip of frame protector film which might help also. Running a shadow mech may help also as it only has the one pivot so doesn't swing around too much.

the stuff we use is industrial tackle so its gonna stick, I would imagine that it would clean up ok unless you let it dry?

Fantastic stuff, buy the heavy duty stuff and it will stick to anything. I also use it to prevent cable rub, strangly although a cable will go through your paint and into the metal in a couple of rides velcro seems impervious.

I use it on my Tazer chainstay. It is a very noisy bike - every little knock, creak or whatever is amplified tenfold but having said that at least I don't get any chain slap ๐Ÿ˜‰ and the iPod helps . . . a lot. Reckon the expanding foam would've been a good idea though.
