I have had a varicose vein since I was 15 and another for a few years now. Recently they have been giving me some jip. It comes and goes in cycles but this time the pain appears to be worse. Have any of you learned folk had any removed and how long until full recovery?

I haven't, but when I went to see the specialist, she said that it would be about 6 months for a full recovery. At that point I decided it could wait until it was really causing me problems.

They often don't need to remove these days, I believe. The lasery/ablation processes might allow quicker recovery or fewer complications (or both, or neither)

I had one removed a few years back, had day surgery and walked out later that day. The bruising was crazy, all of my groin and all down my leg.
Had an inverted stitch thing right near my bits and little butterfly stitches all the way down to my ankle, they came off in the bath about a week later.
Pain wise not too bad, hip joint felt really sore god knows what position they must have had my leg in!

Managed 6 weeks off work, back on the bike in 3, shagging in 2.

Good luck hope it goes ok! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Nowadays, you will be very very very lucky/rare to have them looked at on the NHS...
Low priority etc etc.

I had mine done (one leg) from next to my spuds to my ankle and some vein re routing Etc.
Should have done it years ago, ached when riding and always had back problems because I stood with my weight on one leg mainly to stop the ache and threw my back out.
4 weeks off work no major pain, riding after 3 weeks, leg now doesn't look like a road map of the mountains of Scotland
If it's causing you pain get them cut out.

Mrs STR had some done a few years back - she's a hardy sould, but said it was an awful experience - dragged out from the groin. Not sure how long she was laid up for.

As DrP said - low priority now and you'll be lucky/unlucky to get them done.

Had radio frequency ablation on my great saphenous vein in my left leg 3.5 weeks ago on NHS.
Still tender and bruised. Visible Veins are better but not 100% gone.
Not sure whether to go back for the ones on my right calf yet.
Procedure was a pain free (ish) 40 minutes though. The worst thing was the paper knickers/open back gown I had to wear and the 2 weeks in a support stocking
