We have extended as a family so my current van a vw t6 isnt big enough for us as a family anymore.
Im after a bigger van a few mates have transit vans which i like tje look of and are good to drive.
What im after is help with layout. Need a fixed double space for 2 kids to sleep not just now but for the coming years as they grow. Im in 2 minds of going long wheelbase and putting in a fixed bed and a rock and roll or go shorter and taller and have a fixed bed and a bunkbed set up.
Pictures and inspiration would be helpful as well as distraction from looming world fallout and nuclear war.
Put a pop top on your T6. Double bed up top, Kombi setup downstairs with bed platform. Sleeps 4/5 and carries 4/5 with loads of boot space...
Van is already kitted out but to put a pop top on just dosent make sense in my head to spend the money when i can sell the van for a good price and get something that works for us better
Pop top will work better for you as you'll have sleeping space above so 2 bodies are taken care of.
What about a Crafter? I think that is bigger. How about a Ducato or whatever it is? Wide enough for a 6'1" person to sleep width ways (just) so could have a shorter bed space and leave more middle-van space.
We had the same dilemma when our son was younger, T5 with pop top or Ducato/Crafter size with bunks.
In the end we opted for the T5. The key benefits for us were; reasonable size vehicle for everyday use or short trips away, but still with two double sized beds, low overall height for getting into car parks with height restrictions. Able to put son to bed in the roof and still use downstairs.
Downsides; not really suitable for all year round without some kind of heater due to canvas roof. But we used external insulation to get around this. Not much storage space inside for bikes etc with a crashworthy rock and roll bed fitted, so less secure.
We ended up going T5 LWB (40cm longer) to give us some extra space. Doesn’t sound a lot but made a big difference.
Son was 3 when we got it. He’s now 15. So has served us well. But he’s now too tall/long for the roof bed!!
If you want to go for two full sized beds without a pop top you used to have to go for a fairly big base vehicle. However, there are some clever solutions now with beds that lower from the ceiling which are worth looking at.

We've made the move from a T4 pop top to a LWB Sprinter and love it. Neither were daily drivers, although I am using the Sprinter at the moment as my own T4 needs some welding for the MOT.
We have gone with a double bed above the garage with an R&R in front of that. We are both under 5'8" so can sleep across the van but we could have slept lengthways with a tweak to the design. It is so nice not being in each other way all the time.
