I reckon it'd cost me £150 to have my hubs rebuilt as 29s. What are my other bargain options?

Mavic Crossrides look like a good bargain at £175 on CRC currently.

What hubs do you have ? If they're any good I'd rather pay the £150 to build them up than buy a budget wheel set.

If self-build is an option then you could buy a set of rims and spokes for well under £150.

I recently swapped the Spesh hubs on my new Stumpjumper with a set of Pro II Evo hubs I had from an old 26" wheel build. The total additional cost to me was £70 including new adaptors, replacement spokes & nipples etc.

You could pick up a pair of Mavic 719s for around £85 and Sapim double butted spokes needn't break the bank.

Hope Pro II hubs. I have built wheels in the past but it's just not worth doing again - my LBS are fantastic at it.

I would go for ZTR rims so they'll inflate tubeless with a track pump. £50-60 ish. I wonder what weight the wheelset would come in at?

Sapim race spokes x 64 = 363g
2x ZTR Crest 29 = 760g
Front hub = 180g ish
Rear hub = 300g ish

About 1600g, vs about 1900g for a prebuilt wheelset of equivalent cost (to me). And the added benefit of track pump tubeless inflating.

There's a polish/german e bay outfit called bikestacja that does DT enduro wheels.

DT350 hubs
DT comps
DT wide eyeletted rims (533)

total weight a not light 2kg but quality is bang on and they work out at £150 plus a small amount for postage. I'm really pleased with mine.

Got some OEM Specialized Roval Traverse wheels from my Enduro 29er sitting doing nothing. Go up tubeless easy enough. I replaced them with Hope Flows off the classifieds for £200.

CRC were doing the WTB TCS i21 / i23 / i25 29er rims for ~£30 last week. Look like really nice rims I got a set of i23s to build up.

If you're on a budget I'd go s/h but in as new condition. Lot's of people seem to flog the stock wheels to go Hope/Stans or the like and the s/h ones go for nothing.

I recently sold on some virtually as new Mavic/Formula that although not the lightest, they were perfectly usable and included Specialized tyres in great nick + tubes. From memory I got about £90 posted minus ebay fees. Hardly worth selling tbh.

@adsh

Did the DT enduro wheels from bikestacja come with just the 15mm fitted or did it come with a qr adapter as well.
At the moment I am using a QR front but am looking at upgrading forks later to a 15mm, so ideally just now I would like both.

As soon as someone buys my frame I'll have the wheels Dave. Or maybe sooner if I have to stop Stevie from buying them 🙂

I've some ProII in DT470's that are surplus to requirements. Rear hubs the Evo verson, front is older. Black hubs, silver spokes, black rims. Surplus to requirments as I've got 2 other sets of 29er wheels and only one bike.

If your hubs are in reasnoble condition I'd consider a swap + some cash as I want to rebuild my SS wheels onto normal hubs.

I could do a swap. You're down in the Home Counties somewhere aren't you?

Although I might want to keep them if I get back to XC racing as I can then have one pair with muds and one with drys on to make it easier to select for the course.

How much for cash?

Oh and what axles?

Don't particlaularly want to sell them as I've got some other wheels that need the hubs so I'd end probably end up buying new ProII's for more than the wheels are worth.

I'm in Wokingham if you do want to swap (plus say £30 to cover the cost of spokes), rear is QR, will have to see what's in my spares box for the front, although if you've already got ProII addapters we could just swap them empty and keep whatever you need from the current hubs.

New forks are 15mm.

I'll have a think - not sure how much I need spare wheels for the XCer tbh.

I'm going to Heathrow tomorrow afternoon/evening, not sure if it's possible to hook up though.
