[#1482451]

To shove in the back pocket and whip out for point and shoot stuff. Took a mobile that I only use as a camera out on three rides this weekend and couldn't find time to use it. Forgot about the store thingy on mobiles, by the time I pressed thye button my mates had gone.
So it's got to be as quick and easy as sipping water as that's all the trime I have.

A Canon powershot 480. I got one it was cheap and it's very good for the money. Pics are fine and shutter lag is not terrible especially outside.

Secondhand Canon Ixus. The older ones (say, 4-5 megapixel) go for very little on ebay so are cheap enough not to worry about. Quick to start up and really simply to use even with gloves on.

Cheaps as in You wouldn't mind getting energy bar mashed into the lens to be wipped out with the corner of your jersey, and able to survive five hours and a few falls in a sweaty jersey back pocket cheap.

2nd cannon ixus, avoid powershit, I've had one and a friend had one, battery life can be measured in seconds, write time is attrocious, picture quality is pretty pants too.

Parents have an older IXUS and it rains urine all over the supossedly better/newer powershit.

go for an olympus mju (pretty much any of the range)

they're not too expensive and they are waterproof, dustproof & shockproof all the things a mountainbikers camera should be, oh, and they take pretty good shots too!

That's weird, I've got an Ixus and a "PowerShit", I can't notice any difference between them in terms of speed or picture quality. Battery life is measured in months if you use Energizer Lithium ones.
