I put a set of old shimano Lx v-brakes on my 4yr olds bike. More than powerful enough. I also have a set of cannondale short reach levers on my 7yr olds. The LX levers win though. like these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SHIMANO-BL-M601-BRAKE-LEVERS-LX-DEORE-STX-RC-RETRO-RARE-V-VEE-/301198762761?pt=UK_sportsleisure_cycling_bikeparts_SR&hash=item4620d86309

I got these ones for my lad and they seem pretty good.

Think they are the same as islabike use.
