I have decided im going tubeless...
I have decided Im probably either going to go with Maxxis Ardent or Maxxis Minions on Flow rims.
However, do I go for UST, LUST or just standard tyres.
The UST and Lust options are so much heavier, am I going to regret not getting the tubeless ready tyres?
first outing on my 819s was with a 'standard' maxxis tyre, i blew a huge hole in the sidewall that required an emergency boot and inner tube to fix.
since ive put lust ADvantages on, ive had no problems.
even the 4" nail i pulled from my front tyre, the sealant dealt with it and lost only about 25% of the air pressure. i had a fag, waited till it stopped leaking, topped it up and rode on.
Stan's Flows, standard Maxxis tyres, sealant and washing up liquid on the beads. Easy! Never thought of trying a UST or LUST.
Have a look at the EXO Ardent, tougher sidewalls, but without the weight penalty of proper UST tyres. Standard Maxxis go up just fine on Flows ime, with or without the additional rims trip. Try a double layer of yellow tape for a slightly closer rim to bead match if you're not using the rim strip. Seems to work for me.
I run std on the front and UST on the rear (hardtail). Std weren't tough enough on the rear but are fine up front.
I run the front ghetto and the rear rim is taped up.
Both run Schwalbe FAs
The Flows have been great on my bike. Went for UST tyres (conti RQ) as thought I needed them at the time. Trouble free apart all year apart from trip to the Lakes when I holed both front and back during the week. You might try your standard tyres first and see how you get on. Having said that I'm not sure I wold want a weaker tyre on the rear. I've ended up with a rear HR LUST which seems more robust than the RQ. Still like RQ on front.
Cheers for the responses! There seems to be a mix of opinions!
Think im going to try a pair of the EXO Ardents and see how it goes....
