Does this work? I doubt it - suspect cable pull is wrong - but does anyone know for sure?

I don't think they are any different are they?? I've never heard of specific disc or rim brake shifters, just hydro or cable.

Should be OK as road discs are optimised for the shorter pull of road levers.

Assuming they are fairly modern calipers, yes, it should work. Older models used a bit less cable pull.
