I presume it would be ok to use Fox 20wt gold fluid (which I have) in my 2016 Pike until I can get the 0-30wt stuff?
Or will it destroy something internally and lead to certain death?
I've been using Putoline 10w motorbike fork oil in my forks for about 10 years. Not died yet!
I used the same stuff in my 2021 Pikes and they’re mint!
You'll be fine, there's barely any difference in viscosity, and the reality is the forks are similar internally, so the same across all forks in the lowers, it's not exactly a harsh environment for oils when they're added in a few mm into a fork lower.
I'd say the Fox 20wt is way better than the Rockshox stuff. The only oil I like better is Supergliss 100.
Thanks all. Is anyone using fork grease as well as oil or is that unnecessary really?
I always use grease in the wiper seals and shafts, customers always say that the fork feels better than new

given I've has a couple of RS forks arrive dry from new, that can't be to difficult. Always drop the lowers on new forks.
@bruneep it's weird, sometimes no oil, sometimes a dribble in one leg 🤷🏻♂️

Why not just order some Pike fluid and wait?
BikeTart have it in and stuff from them normally arrives within a couple of days.
Couple of reasons not to do that.
1. OP has Fox 20wt in stock.
2. Fox 20wt works better than the Rockshox stuff.
That's no just my opinion, there's a chap called Dougal at Shockcraft in NZ who has done some pretty extensive testing of this. That's where the recommendation for Supergliss comes from.
It probably all comes out of the same place anyway.
Think I use 15wt in all my forks now, on J-Tech's advice.

Yep. I've always imagined they just buy drums of generic damper fluid and hire a student to stick it in bottles and put stickers on it, then mark it up by 1000%. They probably sit round laughing their arses off reading online forums like this.
For the lower legs? the fluid is just for lubricant rather than damping so dont see why something else wouldnt work!?
For the lowers I've got a litre o 15W Motul Fork oil, I'll be using that until runs out in approx 2036.
I'd use the specified fluid for the damper though
