I need some help. I ride Cannock most weekends and recently i've been trying the black run on the upper cliff section of the monkey and everytime I have to abort or put the bike down half way down the two rock gardens. I'm off the saddle and over the back wheel but what else can I do to get down?
It's probably a mixture of:
Too fast
Too slow
Wrong body position
Wrong approach (mental)
Many others...
Bit tricky to help without watching what you do, but for me the first section is slowish to get round the slight bend then pretty much just let the bike go... Second is similar, start slow-ish to get line sorted then let it go...
Get someone else to watch you and give you feedback, or set up a camera to video you and then have a look. Keep on perservering and you'll get there.
Cheers Graham, If i'm honest i'm going too slow. I'll take a bit more speed next time.
Just close your eyes. ๐
You need momentum rather than speed, if you ride slow at a curb you'll stop dead. Go faster and you'll bounce up the curb.
So, stay wide/left on entry and go in with brakes 'feathered', not slowing you down but not speeding up. Stay loose, its not steep so dont go too far over the back wheel, keep looking up and ahead, not at your front wheel.
Dont worry about finding it tricky, theres nothing else like the rock sections locally so a lot of folk have trouble but with some practise and commitment you'll learn it.
Went on the new black today, shat myself on the first drop but then just rode them ok.
Think it's because there on tight bends.
I assume you mean here btw?:

The thing that threw me on those was getting round the bit of a right hand corner near the rop and the line I found I wanted to run my front wheel round meant my rear wheel with a bit of brake feathering (okay maybe a lot, but still rolling) on the rear meant I had to be loose enough to let the rear slide about round the corner. I took me a few goes to get used to before I did it
Seing someone else on an 80mm hardtail saddle fully up just sail down it spurred me to make myslef ride it
Prefer to go straight on a keep my speed going...
You don't have to brake for upper cliff, the jump/drop in between the rocky bits is better without doing so at least
