My current 09 rp23 non boostvalve never ever seems to get through its full travel...something I'd not really thought about....then it started to bug me a lot as it seemed pointless having the travel and not utilizing it all....im about 11 stone all in and run about 110psi.... Running it any lower means the sag is massive, which isn't ideal...and also a lot lower means the pro pedal firmest setting it sqishing...

I have since seen new fives come with a rp23 with high volume can...my understanding is this high volume can gets through the travel easier? And is better for lighter riders? Hopefully getting one next week if available from mojo....should be as obviously supplied now on fives.....

So what is the high volume can all about? And will it allow me to get full travel?

I hated my shock RP23HV and swopped it out for a VannilaR coil which is great, then I sent the RP23 to Mojo and asked for a Orange 5 tune, it is now soooo much better, before it would drop into its travel and not hold the bike up, now it rides almost as good as the coil but much lighter, still have to say the coil has the edge. I'm 90Kg in my gear so not as light as you,

Jeffus - what year wad your rp23? Boostvalve version? I had a brief chat with orange....and early 2010 xv boostvalve ones weren't great for fives...since mid 2010 they have kept the same setup as current....around like they ironed out initial problems...

I had a high volume boost valve shock on mine and it took some getting used to after an earlier 5 with a Manitou Swinger and then RockShox monarch.
Very wallowy.

Now have had it push'd by TFtuned which has made it behave slightly better but still hit max travel on an easy ride with 200psi in it. (90kg)

What year Is yours Ivan? Or more so when abouts in the year? As I'm quite light im only getting about 2/3rds the way down my current shaft, do I'm not using all its travel...I'm sure this xv can should combat this too...it also never feels overly plush I guess because it seems to hit a wall or struggle deep into its travel?

I am thinking of selling my Fox van r with a 400lb spring (perfect for you) - think it fits a 5 (216 x 63mm - it is currently on my heckler and has an easy 3 month life)

£140 posted tomorrow

Mine was an early 2010 HV RP23 , its much better now Mojo have sorted it nicely, My Vannila R is a 2010 Push'd with Ti Spring , with my 36's up front the bike feels like a mini DH great for storming DH trails 😆 I have a 150mm 32 Talas which is nice for most trails , and works well with the Float RP23.

Mine is an early 2010. Previous one was an 06. The bigger aircan should give you what you want unless the swingarm is getting stuck somewhere. (you dont have a 29in wheel in there?)

cheers you two! sounds promising that (or unfortunate for you) you both had the early 2010 ones when orange knew of the performance related issue with the new boostvalve ones...sounds like they have sorted that out now (especially as you have both have them sorted out after)...

hopefully mojo will have the new kashima 2012 ones available in XV cans 🙂
