[#3765501]

Hopefully somebody can help me with two upgrades i plan on doing with my Bike.

Firstly,I would like to add a chain guide device, the problem im finding or should i say not too knowledgeable about is which one would be ideal. I dont want an uber fancy exspensive one, just something that will function at a fair price.

Secondly, i would like to upgrade the forks. Would i be able to fit triple crown forks? Whats the pro's and con's of it?

In advance of your suggestions, points etc, Thanks.

No. Sorry that's daft. Why do you want to upgrade your forks and what is on there at the moment?

Chain device depends on how many rings your planning on keeping. Ive gpt a five and took off the largest and replaced with a gamut but Blackspire stinger would probably be your cheapest option

i dont think orange will warranty the frame if you add those forks. max travel 160mm btw.

Triple crown are 180mm + and the five is only warrantied to 160mm forks. You might be able to lower a 180 domain fork but I don't see the point...... ๐Ÿ˜†

does the pro not come with Fox 32 140 fit RLC...? upgrade to 160mm 36's? or some marz Ti's, RS lyriks? you can fit burlier forks than the standard ones but doesn't mean they'll be any better for your riding.

Why are you set on triple crown forks? Granted they look cool but the bike isn't designed for them.

I've got 160mm Fox Talas 36's on my Five and they're perfect for big stuff. Stiff as hell and vaguely light.

What are you riding? I only really use the 160mm setting for big mountains and DH. The 120mm setting is much more appropriate and fun for trail centers and XC.

Thanks guys.

Im planning on taking off the largest and will have a look at the gamut as mentioned. Is there any other prep work needed for this or is it as straight forward as it seems?

The triple forks look like a no-go then! My Five has Fox Floats R on it and i do trail centres and DH. This is all good info for me, everyday's a school day!

Many thanks.

Make sure you get the correct fitment on the chain guide; ISCG 05 (if your 5 has the tabs) or Bottom bracket. Make sure it's suitable for a double chainset.
Why were you looking to upgrade your forks?

I've got a Gamut P30 double on my Five too and it works fine. It's a doddle to fit as there are ISCG tabs.

gamut chain device isn't particularly cheap though compared to some others if your on a budget

its pretty straitforward to change. 10 mins max as lomg as you have the right tools and bits. Chainring bolts may need to be swapped for longer or shorter ones depending on your bash. You'll need the correct ISCG bolts too. My gamut didt come with any and they needed to be flat profiled head ones otherwise they'll catch on your granny chainring bolts. Some chain devices are countersunk so this isnt an issue

No, the Five (with tabs) is ISCG OLD, not ISCG 05.
I initially made that mistake.

I run the E13 DRS on a 2x9 setup on my Five. Very impressed with it.

Cheapest effective option is definately Blackspire Stinger though. Have run these on previous bike without problems.

Mate of mine has a 5 with the older 3 position 36 talas and its great, I cant see the point of having smaller forks on that bike. He normally rides them at 130 and drops them to 100 for big climbs or lifts them to 160 for descents. Handles great and has enough travel to cope with what the frame can manage.

What chain device do people use on their 1x9/1x10 orange fives? Trying to decide what to run, I've already got a spare e.13 bashguard so that part of it is sorted..

Having now looked at my bike and read the FAQs on the Orange website, my 2009 model doesnt have ISCG tabs. ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

Back to the drawing board! Any suggestions?

MRP G1 as a single-guide over here.

Shimano M815 (83mm) BB cups too, as the thread inside the BB shell is plenty long enough.

Prior to that, it was a BB mounted Blackspire Stinger + 36T RaceFace bash. 22/36 gearing.

I use the Superstar Plasma with a 1x10 setup and have no complaints.

Not dropped the chain since I fitted it back in October and if set up well and the drivetrain is clean it is fairly quiet.

They come with a BB adapter too.

I have a bottom bracket mounted e thirteen lg1-trail on my single ring set up.
My first ride out on it went well. Single rings set ups are quiet. I like. It's difficult climbing cwmcarn with only a 34t. I not like.

BB mounted stinger is what you need.
I think I've got a used one from a previous bike in the spares box, if you're after one.
