[#4028373]

Hi,
After some advice please. I have a Whytebikes 901 hardtail with 120mm RS Reba Team forks, as they are lower end of the range and two years old I am thinking about uprgrading them. But I am wondering if I could take the opportunity to swap them out for 140mm. My question is, would this have a detrimental effect on the geometry of the bike and would I get much benefit out of the additional 20mm of travel?
Cheers.

120mm forks setup correctly will be more beneficial than an extra +20mm.

Xiphon, that was my initial thoughts. Do you think it is worthwhile upgrading my existing forks or get them serviced...I'm confident I have them set up correctly for my weight etc but I' m thinking upgraded forks could be more supple and responsive.
Thanks for your reply by the way.

IMHO... the bottom bracket is already too high on the Whyte hardtails so adding a longer fork will make this worse. As Xiphon says, a better 120mm fork (or even a 100mm fork!) could(?) improve the handling (IMHO, YMMV etc etc).

RS Reba Team forks are not a bad fork by any means... what do you dislike about them?

Talk to TF/J-Tech/whoever about your current setup - and they may tune them for your weight/riding style during a service.

Stick with what you have I reckon...

Thanks messiah, I certainly don't dislike them they serve me well. I was considering upgrading to hopefully benefit from the better tech that's all as things seem to move/advance so quickly. I am starting to think a good service my do them some good.

Don't fool yourself into thinking 'better tech' will improve your riding.. LOL

FWIW I ride a 12 year old frame (2000 Patriot), with 7 year old forks (2005 36R). Riding 2012 kit won't help me very much....

How about your spend the money on a skills course? Ok, it's quite off-topic in regards to fork upgrades - but perhaps it's *you* that needs 'upgrading' ?

Mmmm....perhaps a trip to see the Jedi could be in order, I like your thinking.

First you have to decide why you want to upgrade (disregarding the shiny shiny new new factor).... then talk to Jedi/any other coach about how their tutoring might overcome the technical barrier.

Or, alternatively, buy some rigid forks ๐Ÿ˜‰
