[Closed] Uneven carbon bar diameter. Will i die (On One / Planet X content)

[#10771948]

After some faffing over whether the bars were actually in stock, i received a pair of One One Knuckleball carbon bars this week.

Just fitted them and and noted that one side clamped down a little further than the other.

I've took them off and examined them and it appears there is a slight narrowing in the clamp area on one side. I have measured with calipers 1cm either side of the center of the bars and there is an approx 0.6mm difference in widths.

I've just pinged and email off to Planet X however I'm not sure it'll get to them as they only seem to be listing a live chat contact method on their website. I tried the live chat last week when they said the bars were out of stock and it took 30 mins before anyone responded so I'm not keen on trying it again unless absolutely necessary!

I'm also a little concerned that the return process will take the 28 days it took for them to refund a chain device I returned to them last month!

So assuming this will be a painful experience, should i be worried over the problem with the bars? Should i ride and forget about it, or will i die? Anyone have any knowledge on carbon bars?

Thoughts and advice much appreciated. Especially from @Brant if you're out there and not too busy with your new shoes (which look good btw).

Cheers!

Get them swapped out or you'll be forever anxious about riding with them.

Got a few pairs of Knuckleballs on different bikes and can't say I've noticed or even looked. All are still going strong
I thought you had to say his name three times for him to appear

Yeah, my other pair of Knuckle balls aren't like this, not are my other RSP carbon bars.

Although I've got a couple of sets of On One carbon forks that have the odd lump and bump.

TBH the unevenness almost certainly isn't a problem but if a bar's defective in one way are you confident that it's the only defect? I wouldn't be.

Hi. Sorry to hear that.
What’s your sales order number and I’ll see what I can do to resolve.

Knuckleball bars have been discontinued as the factory that make them has closed down.
