I've just put some new pads into my hope m4's. one pad has even wear but the opposite pad is a lot more worn and has also got uneven wear to one side.
when I fitted them I had to push the callipers back in with a screwdriver.
now the new pads are in one pad had play in it (I can wiggle it) but the other seems very tight.
the brakes work fine & I cant hear any binding.
do you think I need new seals?
It's uneven piston movement. I'd start from scratch by cleaning the pistons and making sure that they're all free to move (first paragraph here). Then make sure that the caliper is perfectly aligned and that the pistons/pads get properly centered (vids on Hope website). If pistons are still not functioning, you'll need to check for air in the line and then consider a seal change.
It's best practice to properly clean pistons and caliper interiors before pushing pistons back in to fit new pads - saves a load of crap and brake dust being forced back between the seal and the piston and caliper bore.
