Next week I'm partnering up with a mate of mine for our first 2 up 10 mile TT and I was wondering if anyone on here had any advice on tactics.
We're similar in terms of times, he's a bit faster than me, the course is a reasonably flat out and back. We'll both be riding time trial bikes and both know the course pretty well.
What I'm wondering is how much time we each should be aiming to spend on the front. I'm trying to work out how much time its possible to push just over my aerobic threshold and then try and tuck in behind and recover?
Any thoughts?
much as i enjoy road riding, i think you're asking in the wrong place.
you're likely go get an answer here, but a trust-worthy or relevant one? who knows!

or veloriders.co.uk, in the time trial area.
I've never done one before, but 30seconds through and off would sound about right, depends on the circuit though.
If it has some hills, and either one of you is stronger on the climbs, have the weaker rider ride the hill at the front.
There is probably better places to ask but as you did....
DONT get separated, and keep going thru, probably not best to have a set time on the front-just go hard then give the elbow flick
Its only 10 miles you havnt got time to mess about just go for it!
Good luck
Whoooop! +1 for use of 'darkside'.. 🙂
Bonne chance..
I might be a bit late with this but.....
Assuming a fairly flat circuit, with riders fairly evenly matched, turning a gear at around 90rpm..............
Here's what we used to do - as your partner comes past you give him 35 pedal turns, then you start to move up.
Good luck.
Let us know how you get on.

I would have a trial run with him. If you are taking it seriously it's silly not to.
Used to do around 30 seconds on 25 mile 2-ups, not done a 10 miler but I'd say 20-30 seconds. Key thing is not to go into the red when you hit the front, not only can you not sustain it but you'll probably drop your partner if you're evenly matched. Also don't start doing longer turns just because you feel fresh, it will catch up to you.
