Can get it to go up but not down or down but not up, it's like the cage is too wide. About to go full Basil Fawlty on it. Short of squishing the cage a bit anyone go any ideas?

Aye 10 spd and 10 dps chain, changed the cable and that's cheered it up a bit but now the chain's binding between the mech and chain rings when shifting up, need to lift the mech a bit?

Yep, I'd try lifting the mech - should have 3ish mm vertical clearance of the largest chainring when shifted all the way right.

Shimano had a weird thing in that they recommended the CN6600 chain for triples, not the x700 chains. The compatibility chart is on the Shimano Techdocs pages somewhere
