[Closed] Tyres? What size would you think you like?

Just bought 2 tyres.

DHf Minion 2.35
High Roller II 2.3

Guess which tyre is massively, like nearly 15% wider, in regards to tread?

Why not stop putting random numbers on tyres then, you may as well just give them random symbols or a name.

Then no two manufacturers would need to put these numbers on their tyres and us buyers of said tyres wouldn't end up ranting or feeling duped into a false sense of comfort that a simple mathematical progression should be a relationship moving either up or down and anomalies should be the reserve of nature, or quantum physics, not a manufacturer of bicycle rubber?

I mean, what's next? A 26" tyre actually being a 650b? Or 700c? Or a 29" or....

But this boils my fluids even more because they are from the same company!

Somebody please.save.us

Maxxis are better at it than they used to be... I loved how a 2.7 highroller was 2.5 wide, a 2.5 highroller was 2.35 wide... Just a shame the 2.35 highroller was 2.15 instead of 2.1, why break the run?

Leads to weirdness. Rubber Queen 2.2 was bigger than a Mountain King 2.4. Everyone said how massive the Rubber Queen 2.4 was, I measured mine, guess how big? 2.4, shockingly, it just seemed wide because most 2.4s are lying. People say it's down to differences in measurement, so how come the Swampthing 2.5 and 2.35 were almost exactly the same size and shape? One of the future rags once criticised a specialised eskar 2.3 for being oversized- actual size, 2.25 but again all the other 2.3s were so small, it seemed massive.

Rim size is the other standard excuse but it makes surprisingly little difference, I can't be bothered to look up my measurements now but it's bawhairs.

I thought everyone knew that Minions (and old Highrollers) came up small and Highroller 2 sizing was more accurate?

Older Maxxis designs always came up small.
Newer ones are about right.

Best one I had was getting a 2.4" rubber Queen or replace a 2.2" one - it barely fitted in my Bombers - the rubber hairs buzzed the fork crown the whole time.

You'd better send that minion back and get a bigger one. Otherwise your rear tyre is going to be larger than your front, and people might starting making assumptions about your sexuality.

Did the staff in the shop not tell you DHF come up narrow?

I thought it safe to buy rubber unaided, but I will do the only honourable thing in this situation and pretend it was a deliberate choice to aid my drifting rear wheel antics whilst being photographed from behind.

Er, no hang on, I've gone wrong somewhere

Minion 2.35 is narrower than the 2.3 HH, do I get a prize?

Should have bought a Minion 2.3, that 2.35 you bought is the old undersize size, suspect it will be discontinued soon.

For future reference look here

http://www.reifenbreiten-datenbank.de/

As above send it back and get a 2.3 EXO.

Its pretty ridiculous that even the same manufacture can't measure their tyres properly.

Schwalbe are the same. There is no way a 2.25 Nobby Nic and a 2.35 Hans Damph are .1 of an inch different in size

I've found Spesh to be the most accurate, the 2.3 Purgs, Butchers etc I've got are fairly close to their real widths and dwarf most Maxxis 2.5 width tyres!

Remember tioga factory dh tyres? The only thing more laughable than the woeful grip was the sizing, 2.1s were 2.4 ish and 2.3 were 2.6+ ๐Ÿ˜†

2.5 DHF is pretty much a 2.4
