I was wrestling to get a pair of Specialized Renegades on my Stans Crest rims last night, took a good half hour, then they wouldn't seat properly, ended up pumping them up too high and blowing them off the rim,
these were easy to fit by hand last summer, I have also had problem with Specialized Storm, Kenda Nevegals and Schwalbe RR (which had a sloppy fit last year, but now require a lot of tyre lever work),
I don't keep them outside in the cold or anything. Is it normal for tyres to do this? I guess material properties change over time, do the manufacturers expect us to just have one set of tyres and use them within a few months?
I have had this happen twice with Maxxis tyres one time I had to cut the bead to get it off.
I had to cut the bead on one Storm Control. The other Storm Control didn't sit on the rim properly, resulting in the rim wearing through the sidewall just above the bead.
I bought some 2.1s back in like 1998, they looked ENORMOUS! Barely fitted through the frame. Looking at them now, they look tiny!
