Need to get some new tyres to try cross racing this winter (not really very competatively!)
Have got some Maxxis Locusts at the moment that I don't really like (draggy)
Had Maxxis Raze before which I did like for general trail riding
Anything else I should consider? Will the Raze be a bit summery?
No idea what I am doing to be honest on the entering a race front
just turn up an hour before the start, pay your money, scope the course, race!
just like MTBing, tyre choice depends on conditions. raze will be fine early season when the ground is hard and fast but will be crap when it all turns gloopy
michelin mud, conti speed king, dugast tubs ๐
I have pretty much used michelin muds in all conditions. Grip well when run soft and run fairly quick when its dry.
Yeah maybe I should mention I cant really afford 3 sets of tyres!
Maxxis mudwrestler were on my list too
Another vote for Michellin muds. I got some cheap from chain reaction 2 weeks ago. Have a look.
18 quid a pop I see
30 is quite narrow is it? Maxxis all seem to be 35
I've been using racing ralphs for the last couple of months, I haven't tested them much in the mud though, I'm thinking of getting some nobby nicks for the winter months.
*awaits everyone telling me they're rubbish!*
They're rubbish! (there you go another satisfied customer!) ๐
I'd go with the Maxxis mud wrestlers.

Grippy enough in all but the gloopiest gloop at which point I switch to Michelin mud 2's

or the original green muds I still have.

I've been running the wrestlers all summer in the Yorkshire TLI series, no punctures and fast as anything else you'll find. Not draggy at all. They do actually have a centre ridge of sorts which makes them quick on gravel and tarmac.
I'm actually preferring them in the dry to Michelin jets which are a semi slick.

Might run them on the 3 peaks as well as the jets lost grip on Ingleborough last year and dumped me on the deck! ๐ฅ
