I have decided that rather than going tubeless I'm basically going to change from using Presta to Schraeder tubes so I can remove the core's and dump some sealant inside (my wheels can take either with an adapter).

Anyway, some questions:

What are your recomendations for sealant, I was planning to use Stans?

If I dont use the bike frequently enough will the sealant congeal into one big gloopy mess and not flow through the tube enough to prevent punctures?

do I need to keep spinning the wheels (i.e. using the bike) regularly? I currently use the bike once or twice a week at most as I run more through winter but the balance evens out as the nights get lighter and warmer.

How long does it take the sealant to dry up and become useless?

A Few things...

Schwable make presta tubes with removable cores...

Secondly when the sealant dries inside the tube - how will you get it out ? You'll add about 50 grams per wheel with sealant. When i dries you replace it so your wheels will get heavier and heavier.

Sealant life varies - JRA Wheelmilk i found poor - it dried solid within 3 weeks. Stans lasts longer though.

All other mountain bikes in the house have car type valves, so it makes sense that I convert the only MTB that isn't schraeder so I can use the same spares when out and about.

My plan is to find a sealent that will last 6 months or so with minor topping up and replace the tubes away after that, as I do more running than cycling over the winter anyway.

Amongst other things, I was concerned that if I go tubeless and it dries out its a pain to clean and reseal the tyre, with tubes and sealent if it dries I just rip out the tube and start again with no mess, and also trailside tube changes should be a bit cleaner if they're ever necessary..

I've had the best luck with Stans in a UST tyre.Just had a wheel rebuilt and pulled the tyre off.Still sealant sloshing around in there from last April!
Thanx Max

Max,
How much did you put in, have you topped it up at all, and how often has the bike been ridden.

I am wondering if theres more chance of the sealant going off if the bike is stationary for long periods
